What ISP are you using for ADSL?
Can someone please set up a poll or something?

Webafrica seems one of the most popular ISP around. Good service and their online platform is easy to use. I use axxess...not entirely happy with their service but my ADSL works so can't complain.

I am with telkom, but I've tried openweb and so far openweb is my favorite, there was a poll about this sometime ago I believe?

The most popular, in no particular order as I'm unable to sore alphabetically since I have forgotten the alphabet song:
SAOL, GamCo, WebAfrica, Openweb, AYCE (not sure how they doing after dropping the cheap 30G), Cybersmart, Imaginet and most unfortunately and sadly so Mweb and Telkom.

Popularity differs greatly on this forum... people often get put off with the first hiccup... I am very happy at openweb, admittedly I wasn't all that impressed with their sales tactics and I hate the sleazy switchboard operater, but am happy overall... pretty good feedback to queries, etc. so far so good.
For me the biggest deal is the upstream provider. Am ultra happy with performance on Verizon.

Hey Thorin1.
We have recently changed our "Sleazy" Switchboard! We now Have what sounds like an american Movie Presenter welcoming OpenWeb clients! :D
As for the sales tactics... What happened?

IMHO the REAL test is when you DO have problems! Have a look on the forums and see how problems are dealt with in our microcosm. WA are always on the watch and go out of their way to deal with problems, even if they are not directly responsible for them.

Yep been saying that for a while.
Webafrica once helped me at 3:30AM on a sunday morning, after that there was no turning back!
From what I hear Openweb is also awesome! :)
Either of these should be fine.

Yeah once I had a problem with my axxess account. Emailed them 3 times with no reply. I phoned them and they said they didn't get my email. Accounts dept still up to *****. Still with them tho...Just don't want to go thru the hassle of switching ISPs.

I use WebAfrica, their service rocks. The other provider I would look at (if I wanted an IS account) would be Openweb.

I use WebAfrica. You can easily order/cancel everything online, submit support tickets etc. without ever interacting with anyone on the phone. Very easy-to-use online client area. But yes, I guess the big test is how good the service is if something goes wrong. :) Hasn't happened yet.

Well, if reading this thread was any sort of "poll", then it would seem that WebAfrica and OpenWeb are winning the race, with one a nose ahead of the other (yes, YOU can decide which one) :)
I've been an Mweb subscriber since 1997 (originally was an IAfrica dude), and been on their 3Gb DSL since beginning may. I have had zero issues with them at all - except the cost of R300 for 3 Gb. If only I could keep my @iafrica.com email address .... so yeah, guess I'll have to stay :(

Cybersmart for sure, excellent service & support.
Mweb's service is OK, I applied for a cancellation last month, and was told that the account would be cancelled by the end of August, but it's still active. I called them yesterday & they first said I would have to wait yet another 30 days and would be charged for September also, I was then told that it will be soughted out, and I wouldn't have to pay, but the account is still active.

Seconded!!
I've had dealings with SpermCountsa.net (Telscum), Mweb and WA. My pick: WA

hey guys
just a question...I have to sign up to an ISP any day now and have been going through all the pro's and con's - how can you NOT go with telkom? the 'soft cap' means that it is the cheapest or best value for money; I know we all love them; is it just out of national pride that we would rather not recommend them?

Cybersmart for SAIX,
Webafrica for SAIX top-up,
X-DSL for reasonably priced IS accounts.
All of the above are real bricks and mortar companies not bedroom operations without proper billing departments.

Axxess have now got a new 27/7 technical support department on 0861 300 900
Plus as I have seen, they have got most of the bugs out of there accounting department. And another interesting feature is that I got a SMS this morning warning me that I have reached 50% of my 30Gb cap. Now that's nice to know :D

So I spent and hour and a half last night trying to sign on with Telkom, it kept telling me that the email addresses I chose are already in use (impossible...I used the wierdest combinations after the 4th time...); so I signed up with Webafrica. Painless.

I've been with Xsinet Dialup for some time now and the service was great the few times I had to call them. I am hoping to switch to ADSL when it becomes cheaper. How do they shape up as an ADSL ISP?
