Virgin Mobile phone on pre-paid

Can this be done? Virgin are saying that the price of the handset is not included in the contract price... so if I get a pre-paid sim, I should be able to pay upfront their listed price for the handset?

Anyone know if this is possible? I'm thinking that once you have the pre-paid card, you later decide you want one of their handsets, can it then be bought w/o a contract?
 
It's only avalable on the V100 and the V500 packages.
 
As far as I know you can buy a handset from a Service Provider without a contract. I'll get that info for you. Or you can phone Woolworths or Musica or one of the other stores that sell vm phones and ask them. They should be able to tell you.

I'll do that tomorrow, thanks Piesang. I like that datacard they selling - excellent for emergensies and holidays away from home. I'd rather get that than be locked into a 24 month contract again for a datacard.

EDIT: OK, I just ran through their 'package options' on their site and you can get a handset/datacard on a prepaid card provided you pay the full amount of the handset/device. Great!!

I'm not 100% sure about this but I think if you buy it at Woolworths you can get it on your Woolworths account. If I'm wrong, please forgive me.

Hey this would be great! But with Musica Virgin has their own "kiosk"... if thats the same at Woolworths it might not be possible... would be cool if you could do that! :D

Im gonna phone them.... hehe.

Yes you can buy it with a Woolworths account, I bought one last week.

I phoned the dealer I bought my sim from last week and asked if they have the new datacards in stock - his reply was yes they do but no pricing on them yet and they are EDGE/HSDPA :eek: cards - not 3G. So I politely had to explain to him that they are GPRS/EDGE cards and only after I quoted their website did he believe me - aag no man :mad: - where do they get these people from who are supposed to run their outlets and not know anything - anyway, a call to 123 and they confirmed I can get the card and have it linked to my existing pre-paid card bought last week.
