Hello there

Can anybody please Clarify to me about VANS Licencing.

If a prepaid calling card company wants to start offering the services here in South Africa, do you need to apply for a licence.
The reason why I need to know is because, our servers will be hosted by another company and our point of origination for acces (toll free DID)to the servers/softswitch is not from Telkom, but an international provider.

So what I need clarity on, is on the following.

1:Are there any regulatory implications rgarding this issue?
2:Does Telkom offer any trunk lines (T1/E1) with DID like the ones being offered in other countries like the US/EUROPE.If not. why?

I have questions regarding the VAN Licence as well so I can't help you there.

Regadring the E1 with DID, Telkom offers that service over ISDN Primary rate Isdn PRI offer 30 channels with DID, the only drawback is the 2 period you have to sign up for.

According to The Telecommunications Act of 1996 any person or company that runs a Private Telephony network has to have a PTN lic. it states that no one is allowed to sell spare capasity, untill deemd legal, onw that one is open for debate.
