 ISDN2A & Armed response/alarm systems?

:D Hi All

Can you still be connected to a dual isdn2a line and still have a armed response/alarm setup. The reason I ask is that if you're dialed in to 128k both lines are engaged right? Do you have to have a completely seperate telkom line for the above setup (security company that installs home alarms and has armed response setup).

I used to know the answer to this but cant remember:(

I really don't want an ADSL line to replace my ISDN cos its unshaped n uncapped on infinitcall but wifey wants and alarm/security/armed response setup. She doesn't think my "tiger claw judo" will scare any robbers?

You do need a seperate line for the alarm if you're dialled up on both 64k channels. No way around that, unless your armed response company can install a radio pad which is pretty much a standard procedure for the more reputable companies...

Would that mean a second physical line with a second telephone number? Just for interest sakes would the previous post also apply to ADSL?

BTECH - most alarm companies install a radio for connection to them - the telephone dialers are not secure - intruder cuts your exposed telephone line very easily hence they mostly install a radio. Some sophisticated alarms allow you to interact with them via a telephone line but most systems are going via the cellular route for this purpose.

If you can't find someone with a old premicell type device, you may be able to use that, they have a data connection and running them would probably be a bit cheaper/more secure than telkom
