Heres a little article of things to come:

Durban youths attack foreigners

All I can say is these people are lucky to have their lives intact.

This crime problem in our country really needs to be stamped out. I think that A) the main problem is that our constitution is lax on criminal behavior and B) the police services response times are poor, and no the police realy cannot point a finger to the "call center contractor". I know I'm playing a bit of a blame game here, but seriously how does one truely crush crime (or bring it down to managable levels atleast the violent crime) in south africa?, and no we dont have 4/5+ years to do it, we have 3 and a bit.

hey as long as the socislaists can have their sporting events here who cares - beat the foreigners and slam websites that expose the truth of this rotten sh1thole of a country.

This happens often in Brazil. Kids mob tourists on the beaches robbing them of EVERYTHING! I saw a video on CNN where two tourists were left naked! This is the 3rd world my friend. We just don't wanna admit we are living in a country that is fast becoming a slum if something drastic isn't done SOON!

My question is what is this "drastic" measure. I know we complain about crime all day long, but I mean what is to be done to fix the sittuation? Obviously whatever we are doing at the moment is not working.

Dont worry - this will get as much exposure overseas as the website did.

The spotlight is going to be focused on SA for the next few years - this might be the best part of hosting the world cup. Foreigners fearing for their lives does not a good world cup make.

how about if our goverment or our own president makes calls for crimnals not too be so violent - sure it wont help but it's a start.

Right now our goverment only has to say that we should leave if we are not happy with the crime. There is no unity in goverment against crime.

Corruption and general apathy reigns sepreme - but hey apparently this country is a better palce because we can host sporting events as our neo-liberal-socialist friends will try have us believe.

Well I guess Government must shut down news24 now as well. Maybe they must offer them some money not to publish these negative news stories (or plain tickets).

We need a Justice system. Thats all.
The police catches murderers and a week later they get released.
So the police are starting 2 not worry anymore. And just try not 2 get killed rather than 2 catch the criminals.

Hmmm.. first Hellkom.. now maybe HellSA? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... I wonder......

I would say that we ARE a 3rd world country no matter what any1 else says but with a 1st world constitution where criminals got more rights than law obeying people.

I think one of the big problems is that these criminals think their actions are acceptable behaviour. Another thing is they tend to think they can get away with it(and they do). I think the first step toward significantly curbing crime is taking care of the "I can get away with it" part.

I have been thinking about this for a long time now but I think a "big brother" like system that tracks where every citizen is where and when is the only way to curb our kind of rampant crime. I mean seriously any one with a clean concious has absolutely nothing to hide.

Either you could make this system open to every-one or you should have a court order or something along thows lines to access the data of who entered a specific area at a specific time (murder scene e.g.).

In short we should give up certain freedoms to achieve security.

He said he never felt unsafe while attending the recent (soccer) World Cup tournament in Germany. "This is incredible. I am here three hours and two blocks from my hotel and this happens. I hope this is not happening to other people. There is this kind of feeling that you cannot leave your hotel without any kind of assistance," said Martinez.

I totally agree with this. I mean what kind of country do you get attacked within 3 hours?

I wonder how the pro-ANC Crew will put a positive spin on this one?

Simply ignore it - like all the rest of the unanswered questions, challenges - gets to close - well we'll point at another thread - or simply say nothing.

ok Vio -

*I have been thinking about this for a long time now but I think a "big brother" like system that tracks where every citizen is where and when is the only way to curb our kind of rampant crime.*

and how do u suggest this system will help victims? Who will monitor this system and how will they decide whether a situation merits SAPS or other assistance before its too late? Way too complicated IMO. The idea that a Big Brother system existed and yet nothing was done in certain situations because a drone behind a monitor decided it wasnt worth it? Eish no ways...
