Jeh would be cool - If u can get the virgin sim to work in a locked vodacom card, let me know.

I suggest getting a MTN data card and popping a virgin sim in there. Should work coz apperently their not locked. Or get a Samsung ZV50 or a Z560. Nice HSDPA phones :)

Well, the problem is you won't get any other sim card to work in a vodafone card that is network locked, only vodacom will work.:(

MTN and Vodacom both work in my Vodafone (option) card. VM gives me a SIM error. I'll try and get a new card from VM and see if it works.

If you card is not locked then it shouldn't be a problem. Have you forward your vm number to me yet?

xXx - Do you have a 3G (older Option or Novatel) or the new HSDPA (Huawei) data card ?

The older 3G cards were all unlocked and could be used on any network.

Interesting - I've just been in a Vodacom outlet and they didn't even know about locking or unlocking. They were also adamant the Vodacom datacard would NOT work with MtN or any other network.
Where do they get training I wonder>?

I was one of the first to get a swopout HSDPA (Option Globetrotter) card when it was initially announced, so I can safely assume that there as no network locking performed on the card. Furthermore I have tested it with MTN and CellC sims, and they work 100%. The Virgin sim is the only problem. It appears the card can't handshake with the sim for whatever reason.

Have you tried a 128k 'Piesang' Virgin simcard in place of the 68k one?:D

I went to my local woolies last night to buy a vm sim and asked the fine young man behind the counter if they had any 128k vm sim's and he had no idea what I was talking about(Tipical) So he gets on the phone and speaks to someone virgin and they tell him , virgin does not do 128k sims cos they dont support 3G yet.

What a joke...

if one got an MTN data card, would there be a risk that on a future system upgrade at Voda, that the card could be incompatible with the system? in other words as we head into new technologies, will these cards be backward compatible?

You won't find a 128k Virgin Mobile sim in the next 3 weeks in a shop.

My access pack says '1 x Coveted Mega 64k SIM card' on the back under contents. ;) Better check to be sure what you're buying.
