Sometimes things are not what they seem

Been following the Lebanon conflict and read that the IDF have sent one of their elite battalions over the border to clear out Hizbollah from a few villages.

Not funny enough this particular unit (Herev or "Sword") is composed mainly of non-Jewish conscripts i.e the Druze (a sect of Islam) and Circassian (Sunni) Israeli's.

Rather odd.

This situation is similar to what Oliver Stone would say if confronted with the question, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" He would reply, "That is not the real question. The real question is, What else was happening while the chicken was crossing the road, that we did not see because we were distracted by the chicken crossing the road?"

So, the question should be : What else is happening in the world right now that we are not allowed to take notice of?

America's campaign to attack Iran?

True.

I see things going down like this.

1. Israel will invade Lebanon for at least 1 month. By invade I mean take total control...
2. America will attack Iran relatively soon, but this will not be hidden as some suggest. If anything America will want the world to see it.
3. North Korea will be on the cards sometime in the future. It is not strategically smart to create wars on divided fronts. By divided fronts (in this case) I mean splitting your forces and having to manage logistics in different parts of the world. Rather do them one by one. This also weakens any possible alliances.

as for the rest, I am not quite sure. This would however be my best guess at how things will go down. I am not sure if the Lebanon invasion is to taunt Arab countries into military conflict or not. I however consider it highly likely. Syria and Egypt are said to be getting ready for action... Judging by how other countries are evacuating their citizens it seems there was some sort of diplomatic heads up as to what "might" go down.

While your ideas are interesting I would be very surprised if things played out like that. Last I heard was that the US doesn't have the man power to launch another invasion at this point in time without conscription and the chances of that are slim to nothing.

Anything is possible though.

Not so I'm afraid, it seems as if there are plans afoot for the reintroduction of conscription in the US. I'm currently looking for the pages I read with this info, which if I find again I'll post on the end of this response.

The main problem with discussing ideas such as laid out in this thread is that it is very hard for the 'man in the street' to accept that governments all around the world engage in nefarious activities. Mostly I find that people are quick to dismiss such talk as 'conspiracy theory' Now I take a lot of things with a pinch of salt, espically what I read on the interweb, but the more one looks into these matters the more a bigger picture begins to become clear.

I was in the US in October 2001 and from my discussions with people there it became clear that they were of the opinon, even then that something was afoot. But as they were youngsters (early 20's) all they cared about was that the gas price dropped to below a $1/gallon once Afghanistan was secured (thanks to the abilty now for a 'friendly' source) to place an oil pipline across the land..

I wouldn't be at all surprised if something happened in the middle east which could be used as an excuse for the US to increase it's powerbase there. Possibly moving in as a 'stability' force in Lebanon from which they could build up enough ground strength to dominate the region (and it's oil)

The project for a new American Century covers this topic.
http://www.newamericancentury.org/ This is heavy ****, **** Cheyney is part of it..

Anyhoo...

Back to the idea of conscription. Of course it's not called that, but 'Selective Service'

Here is the link to the offical page

Do a search on selective service for more info.. It is conscription in everything but name.

Lol Richard Cheyney's name gets edited out :D

Edit two:

Taken from this page http://www.newamericancentury.org/Bushletter-040302.htm

' Israel’s fight against terrorism is our fight. Israel’s victory is an important part of our victory. For reasons both moral and strategic, we need to stand with Israel in its fight against terrorism. '

What more reason do you want than for yank groundtroops to 'help' Israelis 'occupy' Lebanon?

Conscription in the US is a non-starter...

Err, how do you figure that? It's part of the law already that the government can enact conscription when it likes. Are you basing your idea on the fact that a lot of young Americans won't like it? They didn't like it in the Vietnam war, but it still happened..

Also, going on something I mentioned in my previous post, here is an article from the BBC..

Israel 'to control Lebanon strip'

Stop talking nonsense. It's currently high fashion to be anti-Bush and even anti-America. Those throwing stones at America usually enjoys the benefits of the stibilty and prosperity created by the US. Yes, America has made many errors - and still do - but I don't even want to consider what our world would have been like if the US didn't install and protect democracy across the globe. If the US were to return to isolationism the rest of the world will suffer. The American Empire - as some prefer to see it - has been the best one ever. Thanks America for sending your sons and daughters to all parts of the world to protect democracies everywhere.

And concerning Bush ... he's the right leader for this time. The liberals doesn't like him for obvious reasons and the media in general is doing their talking.

Egypt?! They are still recovering from the attacks on tourists that happened years ago. - They get 1/3 of their revenue from tourism -. They are also part of Bush's 'war on terrorism'. They might grumble about Gaza, but they are unlikely to get involved.

Selective service registration has been the law there since the 80's - nothing new - I even registered. Certainly doesnt mean the draft is about to come into play - that would have to be done by congress and not the executive branch.

No, of course it doesn't mean that the draft is about to happen, but the mechanism is in place to enable the draft to be reinstated.. I think the SSS site mentions something like 190 days, which is a while so it's not like it's going to happen overnight...

@ Trafeye

Well thats your opinon and you are welcome to it.

However, look at all the so called 'installing and protecting democracy' as you call it.. Do you really think that the US invades other countries based on altruistic notions? Everytime the move in somewhere, it's usually so they can control the key resources of that region. If the Middle East was just a big sandpit with no oil do you really think that the US would care what happens there?

'The American Empire - as some prefer to see it - has been the best one ever'
Exactly how old are you? Have you lived through another empire? What makes it so best one everish'?

America would have been involved in the M-E even if there was no oil whatsoever. Reason: Israel. It's a relgious thing. Call it what you will ... NeoCrusaders ... whatever. Israel is close to many hearts in the West - like the Palestinians are close to other's hearts.

What makes America the best empire ever? To list a few points:

- "Coverage". No-one in history covered the globe like the US (not even Vodafone :) )
- They brough democracy and freedom to the world like no-one else.
- They created a world economy like no-one before it.
- They brought us Coca-Cola, Nike, Elvis and Chuck Norris :)

One need not have lived long to know this. Reading is one way to know - and no one has brought books to the world like America - and Amazon.com.

Trafeye although I'm pro-American, I'd just like to point out that Israel was probably created to suit US foreign policy.

The British Empire was arguably larger. Just have a look at todays Commonwealth countries and you'll get an idea of its expanse.

Not so. The concept of Israel - as it is today (mostly) - comes from before the time of US domination. Balfour declaration etc. The Brits are more responsible than the US if one has a need to point fingers. The US basically inherited Israel from the Brits. The Zionist movement is something that's been in the works for centuries - and took the gap that opened-up around the time of WW1. The injustices done to the Jews during WW2 opened the door for the creation of Israel as we know it today. Many in the US sees protecting Israel as a religious duty.

Possibly if measured in land occupied yes. The US don't occupy land like the Brits did. The US "rules" the world not by occupation (colonies) but (mostly) using economic pressure. If one considers the information age and cyberspace the US "coverage"/influence spans the globe - and even to the moon and mars :)

If one considers that the US "ownes" the moon, having planted their flag there first, they surely are the greatest empire.
