ANC accused of 'ugly' racial categorisation

It's blacks before coloureds in the restitution queue, is ANC spokesperson Smuts Ngonyama's response to accusations by Allan Boesak that the ANC had reintroduced the language of racial division and damaged non-racialism
At the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa conference at the weekend, Boesak said: "We brought back the language of racial division and we need to say that was fundamentally wrong.

"We have deliberately allowed the ANC to bring back the language of racial categorisation. In the 1990s, all of a sudden we were told again, you are Africans, you are coloured, you are Indians, you are white," he said.

Tell that to the Millions of South Africans working overseas, many of which may now never come back to their country of birth.:(
 
luckily apartheid created the racial group classifications the ANC is using to this day.

DA was criticised in yesterday's Cape Times by the ANC for reverting back to the "Group Areas" because Zille wanted to use the same management for areas with similar problems and these happen to be racially divided or as least different development levels along the same lines as the old group areas.

So what!

It makes sense and it will be more productive in the end!!! But political parties use any little phrase or quote to campaign against each other.

It is the same in this situation, I don't think anyone can disagree that black people were third class and coloured people were second class during apartheid - the law said as much. So of course the people who need the most are going to be black.

But again, a political party will use this as a platform to scream RACISM and garner support.

People must see this for what it is, campaigning - if it were anything else lawyers would be weighing-in and asking for the constitutional court to decide - but they aren't.

Well... IMO, the division is not lawfully forced, so its not the same, although there are many factors which have lead to the situation being very similar.

both are policies, neither are law.
 
Oh c'mon - comparing policy....

APARTheid government policy was enforcing segregation. Get it.. APARTheid.

No ANC policy comes close to this.

So... YES - of course they are fundementally different (what an insulting poll)

I prefer a free democratic SA - and prefer having this gub to the previous - no comparison - but in terms of delivery and skewed policies this gub leaves lots to be desired.
 
IMO its all about priorities and talk versus do.
e.g. Celebrations and parties before housing delivery.
Talking about improving public service vs actually improving public service. Etc.
Now... I am not about to compare the current gov with the previous one - apples with pears. And I don't think we should let all this comparison talk distract from the present. NOTHING is as it was when the previous gvt was around. Just try sitting through a 1970s movie without falling asleep for instance.

Its not about then vs now... its about now - fullstop.
Why should we settle for second best and then say, well, it's alot better than it was.... that imo has nothing to do with now.
