Cape Town moves up ranks of best cities

Cape Town was voted the best tourism city in Africa and the Middle East in an annual poll of readers of Travel and Leisure magazine.

Executive deputy mayor of Cape Town, Andrew Arnolds received the award at a function at the Rockefeller Centre in New York this week.

The World's Best Awards, in their 11th year, involve readers of the magazine naming the best in travel, from hotels to cities, as well all the operators and outfitters who make the journey possible.

The event is considered to be one of the most prestigious tourism awards in the world.

Renaissance cradle Florence in Italy won the overall Best City in the World Award as well as the Best City in Europe title.

They can host the whole thing down here. :)

The Cape needs an economic boost.
 
Cape Town CCID to thank for that. They have done great work the last couple of years. Crime is down, development and foreign investment is up. Good things happening.

Side note: Beirut must have been a contender for best of the Middle East before it was blown to bits. Was apparently referred to as the "Paris of the Middle East".

It's not really geared at tourists, it's more a resource tool for businesses and organisations working with the CCID.

Waron : Yep, very true. The CCID is single handedly responsible for bringing the CBD back from ruin like it was in the early nineties
