Hi there guys.

Does anyone have the same problem? During the day the internet speed is fine with Virgin Mobile but in the evening I can hardly browse anything. Its very slow.

If everyone have the same problem then I should let them know about it.

Regards
Piesang

Piesang, i've had the same problem yeah.. Also i dunno if it was by accident.. But when i had around R20 left on my simcard.. I got slow speeds... Maybe it was just tower problems... (pm me)

Peak Time

I'm logged in right now and it is 460.8kbps at 21:31 and I have no speed
issues,You guys logged on at peak time when everybody gets in from work after supper, they login and do the kids homework, so there thats the slow
period.Right now everything is going fine from my Nokia N80 modem.Pity I cannot say that about my MTN data card.Hope to get my VM 128K sim soon.

I used to have the same problem with VM. Fantastic speeds at 7am in the morning. Reasonable speeds during the day. But horrendous speeds in the evenings!

I say used to because I havent tried recently.

460.8kb/s with VM? That's probably not your download/browse speed.

That is the speed I am getting online with my N80 as modem.I am online for
an hour now and it has not drop in speed at all.:D
I was downloading spyware software in the background as well, while updating this post.

I'm also having slower speeds in the evenings. Also, it seems I have to redial a lot more then to get a connection than early during the day.

460.8 is the speed you set for your modem (phone) in modem options. its not your real download speed.

Yip, that's the conclusion I make as well. VM only uses GPRS/EDGE. The speed you talking about is a bad HSDPA connection. Not even 3G is 460k.

Hey I was in contact with VM last week and they told me that last week and for the rest of this week connecting in the evenings will be problematic or down totaly as they are working on the data network with the cell c techs and are doing it in the evenings to minimise the affect on busniess clients using it during the day!! Thats what i was told.

Well if that is the case they could inform all of us via sms or even the forum.

Dont treat us like mushrooms.

I totally agree with you. I'll see if I can sort something out. Maybe they could send me a e-mail or something when they know there are going to be problems with the network due to maintenance or upgrades.

I must say, last night I got excellent speeds. 115kb/s with GPRS. I don't know how that happened because GPRS is not suppose to be that fast. But my phone only have GPRS and 3G, no EDGE.

Test done

Morning Guys

Piesang I did the test last night and I had a true 460kpbs with my Nokia N80 and I did another test with my Nokia 6600 via bluetooth because I don't have a data transfer cable for that phone and I got 115kpbs and as I write this morning with 6600 as modem I am getting 115kpbs. It also depend on your PC and setup.Go well:)

I forgot to mention that my Nokia 6600 has a MTN sim in,and my Nokia N80 had a VM sim.
