Telkom to reduce wholesale ADSL ISP bandwidth rates

Classic Telkom! It's like a strip tease, but done over several years instead of several minutes.
 
Overseas is the international practice for ISP's to have to buy GB bundles (as Telkom force ISP's to do here) or do they rather buy access to a peering link (i.e. they buy a 5mbps peering link to Telkom's SAT-3 connection)?

And R42/GB wholesale is still madness when the consumer price per GB overseas is closer to R10/GB
 
I love the timing - 27 July for 1 August.

I gives the ISP's plenty of time to do their new pricing.

The differential between large and small is obviously designed to strengthen TelkomSA's offerings and to wipe out the smaller guys.
 
Overseas you buy a "pipe" not a gig. (Not always, but mostly)

And WHY on earth can we not have reduced local traffic costs?

so what will the consumer be paying now? a bit less?:confused:
 
R42 per gig is the minimum. with vat it is R47.88.

It definitely looks like that. My "quick maths" (using 2gb usage average) is that 10000Gb means you'd need at least 5000 customers! To hit the max band of 200000Gb you need 100000 customers! Uh, thanks, that leaves just TelkomInternet with that sort of customer base!

Actually it does give them plenty of time but also think of it this way - it gives them a month where they dont pass on the savings, pocket the difference and blame the late announcement.
 
Anybody want to place bets that the price of Telkom internet is going to go up instead of down? :D :D :D :D

Hi Guys,

On a personal note, I think this is a way to drive smaller ISP's out of the market. T*lkom has dropped prices from R59.40 to R52.91 however they have made impossible targets to receive anything better. compare the normal 10% reduction once the ISP's 500 GB target was met towards now where the first target to reach is 9 999 GB’s. Personally I believe this bad news rather then good.

doobiwan is of course the closest with regards to the numbers he provided. I have no doubts that the only ISP currently in the 200TB range is Telkom Internet.
