@ Buddha hi there is your phone network locked the last i saw it was about 500 pound at a phones4u gsm free, on network locked phones you can have them unlocked for about a tenner in some dodgy back yard/shop job but they are genraly cheaper.:o

Was usign the k800 yesteday - quite a damn nice phone ;) I'd get one.

If you think the K800 is good, wait till you use the M600 - its damn awsome. Its light, has touch screen. Best phone I've ever used....

Out of curiosity, how much do you think it would cost for a new contract with a K800i because I was thinkin on getting a K750 or w810 but cant decided whether or not the it'll be worth it to wait for the k800 then?

That would depend on the orders placed by the respective Networks .

I just received this E-mail from MTN as I am currently eligible for an upgrade and am also looking at this phone:

"Good day,

Thank you for using the MTNSP Webmaster service.

Please note that the Sony Ericsson-K800i is available, however you would
need to visit a local MTNSP dealer to enquire on stock availability."

I then called every MTN retail outlet in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Midrand and no-one had in stock. Most of them did not even know that such a model exists so it does not look as if it will be in the nearby future. Very strange indeed...

Hi

I applied for this package yesterday through a provider who also advertised the deal. A few hours later, Vodacom phoned me to say that no packages for the K800i have been issued yet. Can you shed some light on this please?

Vodacom allows the dealer to tailor make a package for the Client , dealers use a program called Deal Calculator .It is true that no packages are available , the package i offered was a deal i created .

Thanks for info. Do I have to wait until it's official then? Or is there some other way of proceeding?

I cannot understand why the Dealer cannot process the deal for you , which part of the country are you situated .

Durban. Everything seemed to be in order with dealer. Then Vodacom phoned me to tell me the deal does not exist?? I am goin gto contact the Dealer again and see if I get any resolve. I'll keep you posted.

try another dealer , it is very unusual for Vodacom to call the client about a deal not being available

Don't even bother trying to get one if you are on MTN.

SE & MTN don't sit on the same side of the fire at the moment.

Is this why SE phones seem to be much more expensive on contracts than Nokia phones?

If you want this phone on a Vodacom contract, you can go to either Game or Dion. They are advertising this phone for free on a Vodacom Weekender Everyday contract.

There is a once-off connection fee of R202 and SIM card costs though.

We have the K800i at R 3999, Vodafone Live stock, so it is open to all networks, but it would irritate a MTN / Cell C / Virgin user having the VLive software on it,

Sweet! Got my K800i today from Vodashop and it was definitely worth the wait. It is completely vodaphone branded, even the box and manuals are by vodaphone. Got it for free on Business Top Up, on Weekender you can get it for +-R700. Sounds like deals on the new Top Up packages will only be available from 7 Sept.

Haven't got round to buying the phone yet, but Game has it for FREE on Weekender.

I just wish the wasn't so much BS procedure to make the purchase like payslip, bank statement etc. Anyone else have a deal on this phone?

If MTN can't get themselves sorted out with SE I may just wait to take out a new contract and go with Vodacom.

They have several more in stock at their Bellville store.

I upgraded from SE K750i. Much bigger difference than I expected. Great phone!!

No, I did not get a memory stick with mine (from Vodacom).

The right softkey is now the toolbar button in standby and pushing the joystick up (in standby) will do the internet thing, so you don't really loose functionality.

Very interesting, only noticed it now. Wonder if that will mess up everything if you get rid of the vodafone stuff and load the default firmware...
I could change the vodacom/fone startup screen and theme, but looks like I'm stuck with the 'Yebo Gogo' screen on shutdown. I'm also not very happy that they replaced the Cybershot logo at the front with the vodafone logo.

Tried the video calling thing yesterday, worked liked a charm.:)

Are all the K800i phones in SA Vodafone Live? Or does it depend where you buy it. I went to a Vodashop to check one out and the sample there had no Vodafone branding on it.

adamr

GregR ...
As far as i know all vodacom K800i are the vodaphone live type ...

i just debranded my phone using that wantonserver ... the original SE icons and layout is just so much better ... phone is also "faster" and in general runs better ... cost me R66 to do online using the cable that came with the phone ...

... the normal retail k800i comes with a 64mb memory card. I think it is robbery by vodafone and vodacom not including a memory stick with their phones ... just bought an N80 for my sister and that came with a 128 SD card ...

I see that the SE shop at Vodaworld have stock of the 256 and 512 M2's. They are selling the 512 for R599, even though the local Sony website lists the recommended price as R399!!!!

bought a k800i in ireland for 300 euro's and a 1gig sandisk m2 stick for 60 euro's (it was on a sale, marked price was 90 euro's), and the sony 1gig ones were 70 euro (also on a sale).

Almost all the phones in europe is networked locked, but i got my unlock code from vodafone.

Will it affect anything if i debrand my phone? Or is the locking settings different from the software?
