Is this guy for real:Aristide lectures on slavery

Aristide invited his audience to ponder the state of "Ubuntu" during what he termed "the first African tsunami": "From 1451 to 1870, hundreds of thousands of African bodies disappeared in the seas."

"Last month we witnessed the sea rushing towards the Asian people. But in 1471, it was the opposite: the Africans rushed towards the sea and jumped in, preferring death to slavery," he said.

well, Apartheid did start in 1652....

Just a few observations -

Slavery was a global phenomenon. Arab traders were the masters and had been practising this for years. Black Africans were also doing it - capturing other tribes, killing the men and enslaving the women. 'Our' very own Shaka Zulu made this his hallmark. Many Cape coloureds were from Malaysia (sorry Tibby.Dude ) It doesn't make slavery any less evil, but everyone was doing it to some extent. Why start blaming soley Western Europe for this, unless the aim is to elicit money, favours or sympathy?

I don't suppose any slave progeny would like to be returned to their countries of origin.

Perhaps we need to reorganise everyone back to their roots. English people back to Italy/Scandinavia/France; Americans back to Ireland; Xhosa back to Tanzania (& the Zulus). Who would be left in this fair old land - just the Khoi San?

Citizen swop? Except the slaves weren't interested:

Sierra Leone was established as a country for former slaves of the British Empire in Africa. Liberia served an analogous purpose for American slaves. The goal of the abolitionists was repatriation of the slaves to Africa. Also some trade unions did not want the cheap labour of former slaves around. Nevertheless, most former slaves stayed in America.
