Telkom ignores ASA communication, does not comply with ruling

What a shock. Telkom acting like a law unto themselves. Say has anyone seen that share register yet?

Depending on which way the wind is blowing at the time probably has more influence on who Telkom 'chooses' to listen to (or ignore) on any given day.

When the competition board rule against them, Telkom claim it means nothing as they don't have the authority to do so, it must be Icasa they say.
When Icasa point fingers cause people complain, Telkom say take your complaints to the competition board.

The ASA doesn't have a hope in hell.
 
Well this is more than likely me just being hopefully and it will more than likely never happen...

But... What if all three of them gave telkom the finger at the same time, about the same thing(s)? ;) Then Telkom will prob cry foul again and threaten to shut down the telecoms network -grin-

Some companies are just beyond being helped I guess...

What can the ASA actually do against Telkom anyway.

take them to court? I am pretty sure the legal budget of Telkom is MUCH larger than the ASA.
 
The problem I have with this is it's becoming a bit pointless isn't it? Telkom ignores the ASA so what makes them think Telkom will bow to any sanctions?
 
Regulators without teeth are useless. When dealing with a company like this the regulators need to be given the authority to use any means necessary.

These regulators need the authority to actually take charge of companies that don't behave. All this court action is a waste of my money and valuable court time.
 
Toothless watchdogs the lot of them.
 
Call their bluff

Maybe now's the time to call Telkom's bluff. Lay down the law and force them lower prices, improve quality of service and abide by regulations (telecoms AND advertising).

If Telkom decides to withdraw investment into infrastruture and stop providing services, they'll only be shooting themselves in the foot. Their shareholders won't allow their stock prices to plummet. Worst case scenario, we consumers save on monthly Telkom bills and in a few months, the SNO-T can pick up where Telkom left off.

Companies that don't want to provide proper services should be broken up or shutdown.
 
Lets think about this, what would it actually take for Telkom to listen? Even it went to court they would probally get away with it, remember the constitution protects the rights of criminals equaly as much as the victims :D

As long as Telkom are the only big fish in the pond, nothing will change anytime soon. The more we hear about it the more we can see governments involvement and lack of enthusiasm to do anything about the problem. Will someone please take a very big stick to Telkom!!

I'm talking under correction, but can the ASA not force the media where these adds are displayed (TV, Papers, etc) to stop publishing them??

Only one problem. Hypothetically if the ASA banned Pick 'n Pay from advertising they might lose money as they can no longer communicate new products/specials to their customers while their competitors can. If the ASA banned Telkom from advertising it wouldn't make a dent in their bottom line (hell they'll save money) because we have no choice except to use them.
