Would you pay to download an MP3?

I came across this site:
www.allofmp3.com

It is probably one of the cheapest, legal MP3 sites on the NET. A single songs costs 0.6c (R0.40) and a full album costs $1 (R7.00). I think that is good value for money.

I registered an got $0.20 free - enough for me to download 4 singles.
 
Sure, I do and I have. But off of legitimate places

However, allofmp3 is known for not giving anthing to the artists, even though they claim they do. Buying music from them is no better than stealing. The only people who make money from that is the russians

I have been trying Musica digital... 9 rand per single tho!
But if above is true, then why support them...
 
been using this site for ages ...

cheap ... and got some old songs that are hard to come by....

The problem that that there is no real good option for South Africans. I have access to a US credit card and can use iTMS. But allofmp3 is beyond dodgy, musica a rip-off, and most of the other stores are not available to SA citizens. Anyone know if emusic works for saffers?

Where do you get these "Facts" from?
 
ernst : It came out during one of the lawsuits against them. Unfortunatly, there is not much american and british courts can do to shut them down. But when you disregard what the artists and label charge for their work, it should come as no surprise that they dont even hand over what little they do charge

I use Legalsounds.com = US$0.09 per song.
Right now STD sells US for 7.0390.

So it's R0.63 a song. That's very cheap for me. I like.
 
And then everyone wonders why people turn to piracy? If we have such limited options as South Africans (the continents economic hub), I can just imagine the predicament that the rest Africa (and probably South America and parts of Asia too) finds themselves in.

emusic works - but the selection is cr4p, obscure albums etc..
 
Highflyer_GP : Whilst I dont agree with piracy, I have very little sympathy for the Music Labels. We could have had iTMS here by now if it were not for the constant disagreements on price by SonyBMG et al (Apple has to negotiate a new deal for every single country they enter) And SonyBMG and others have gotten more and more harder gat every time. There is not much they can do about the US because iTMS is so popular there, but they dont want to enter the same deal in other countries. They believe they should have the upper hand.
What they dont seem to understand is that every day they refuse to capitulate to Apples terms, piracy becomes worse

That's the crux of what I was trying to say, however not just to Apple's terms but the entire online music industry will soon be brought to it's knees if something doesn't give soon. By the time Sony realises this, it would have been too late - the very people they were trying to combat (pirates) would have won.
 
Lets be honest - allofmp3 is doggy as hell and we all know it. At the very least its in a grey area. Buy from allofmp3 or download from bit torrent and the artists get the same - nada.

IMO the big thieves are the labels so screw em - if they didnt make it so hard to download legitimate music then less people would pirate it.
 
Apart from the fact that allofmp3 might not pay correct royalties to the artists, what is dodgy about them?
