I think it's time for a name change - not for buildings, roads, cities, or provinces, but for the whole country - South Africa should become The People's Democratic Republic of Azania - or something to that effect

South Africa is a geographical area - it's time we get a real name -

And before everyone gets themselves all in a knot about how well known the name is and how detremental it will be to the economy - remember all the countries that changed their name and are just or even more well known than before

This suggestion should be submitted to the name changes committee
 
Actually South Africa is a cool name because it sounds like a continent and everyone knows continents are much bigger and cooler than countries!
 
Indeed ... South Africa is a colonial slave name ... we should change it to Bapetikosweti.

It's real easy to find south africa.
People don't even know where Mombassa is ... how in the heck would they know where Azania is ?

The again ... if they cannot find it ... this could be a good thing.
 
Hey maybe AZAPO should call for a change in the name of the continent - afterall it is a Latin name.
 
Azania sounds to much like orania.... does'nt it?
That's probibly where they got it from... :D

America, Canada, France Greece, Australia, Russia, China, India etc are also all geographical areas so whats the problem?

Not sure how these are geographical areas, except for Australia. I think that xterminator means that our name is a description of *where* we are, even the United States of America is more of a description of *who/what* they are.

And anyway, its what the majority wants.
 
I agree a banana republic should have a banana republic name. and then Zuma can become the King of Azania...

The Repuplic of South Africa is a boring name. And translated by every damn foreigner anyway. Afrique du Zuid etc.

We need a cool name like, erm, Telkomnia (Tel kom Nee ah).

Or, maybe the
Confederate Union of Native Tribes - wonder what the acronym could be....?

If I didnt know who you were (not that I do, i just mean from the forums) I'd think you were joking.

How much is it realted to slaves?? I doubt whether the dutch thought, OK, so we have slaves, lets call this place South Africa.

And is that name a real suggestion or are you just making things up? If your serious what does it mean?

Personally, I thik a name change for the whole country is just too expensive, and very much a waste of time. there are much worse names around to change, like you say, South Africa is neutral, it favours noone really. No need to change it. If it was free and easy to do, maby.
