Residents say "NO" to crime

Fury about rampant crime is driving Cape Town residents to vigilante action, nabbing culprits and dishing out harsh punishments.

Its about time! The typical south african criminal is not responisible enough to be afforded human rights!

Confiction rates are below 8% of arrested suspects. Never mind the ones that never get caught ! Crime is rampage in this country, our goverment better wake up and smell the gunpowder before it's to late.
 
Our entire justice system is in shambles. I'd be surprised if incidents like this don't become more and more common.
 
while I agree that crime is out of control, and gvmnt useless, what proof is there that this individual was guilty? Where do you draw the line?

"Oh, but he looked at me skeef so he must have done something?"

Vigilanties are criminals. Despite any argument about ineffective policing, it does not change that one fact.
 
With a justice system like ours I'm all for vigilantism.You really can't blame these people for what they have done, you even have to respect them because they are risking jailtime to help make the country a better place

Vigilantism is fine, until you argue with your neighbour about his barking dog, and he convinces your block that you were seen stealing from someone else, and you get beaten to death...

I was wondering the same thing.. i geuss they just generally beat the guy up.

Serves him right, and its what the community have to do. Its great if you ask me, the police in Kyalitscha are useless.

They're seldom caught 'red-handed' as claimed. Vigilantism seems like a good idea. However people caught carrying out actions like this must be arrested, charged and jailed just like any other common criminal. These lynch mobs are a menace and should be dealt with swiftly.

There is a huge difference between doing what is necessary to subdue or deter a criminal breaking into your home, steal your car, etc, and hunting them down after the fact.
 
I'm just waiting for the day when these idiots do this to a gangster. Everyone involved, their families, everyone they've ever even looked at funny will be executed in short order.
 
Vigilante mobs have already been involved in at least one murder. Should we then have vigilantes going after the vigilantes?

It has already happened - with PAGAD in CT about 10 (15 years?) ago.

I'm putting together a lynch mob to round up all the suspects involved in this assault. We're going to beat them within an inch of death.

Actually not quite the same. That's how it looked, but his death was arranged by a competing gang who subsequently took over the drug trade his gang controlled. And revenge deaths did take place, although they were not widely reported in the news (just as the news seldom reports it when gangs kill whole families trading in the wrong territory).

And the gangs have become more security-conscious and ruthless since.
