The African National Congress accused the media on Friday of distorting its policies in a bid to sow racial division among South Africans -- particularly residents of the Western Cape.

Recent "gross distortion" of the ANC's position on equity and restitution had been no innocent mistake, the party claimed in a statement.

"It is clearly part of a deliberate and malicious political agenda to sow division among the people of our country."

It accused the Cape Argus newspaper of twisting ANC policy objectives by stating in report on Tuesday: "It's blacks before coloureds in the restitution queue".

"Since then, the newspaper, along with other media, political parties and commentators has perpetuated that falsehood in a transparent attempt to ignite racial division and antagonism, particularly among the people of the Western Cape," the ANC said.

Ya because it's all true - and that's how sad it is - immoral, thieving bunch with no values.

Uum, did we all agree to AA and BEE - or was this just 'imposed'?

These days newspapers remind me of the bad days of the worst; thanks ANC we appreciate your efforts

Some Thoughts

In the Western Cape the coloured folk make up the bulk of the population.
They also have been in the area for hundreds of years and those that are descended from the Khoi or the San, literally thousands of years.

The bulk of the blacks moved into the Western Cape in the last decade in the hope that the ANC will keep their promises of houses and jobs.
The problem is there aren't enough jobs. Or houses for the 266 000 families that are still on the waiting list.
This has caused friction and the media is smelling the story and has picked up on it and perhaps to a certain extent hyped it. But that is the media.

What the ANC cannot deny is that there is a large proportion of truth in the media statements. If the media is wrong then the ANC should jot down in point format which parts of the media releases are not true so we can scrutinise what is on their minds as it seems to me there is confusion amongst the people in the Western Cape as to their intentions.

The ANC has promised so much to their voters.
How much of this is possible in the short term?
Jobs and Houses are short term needs of everyone.

I have read they will never catch up with the housing backlog at the current rate of funding. On the one side they need to appease their voters from the Eastern Cape and on the other the coloured people, many of which have been on waiting lists for housing long before the new influx of people from the Eastern Cape and also other parts of Africa.

The Housing Backlog is a National Disgrace.
Here in the Cape the ANC hyped the release of the new 700 houses in the N2 Gateway Project to the media.
Only 700! :o
It should have been 7000 or 17000?
Poor show IMO and the cost per unit ran over-budget by 100% or more.
We will never know the actual costs. It will be kept from us.
But we all paid for it.

Wetlands.
Much of the Cape Flats is/was wetlands.
Much of this is now reclaimed, but in winter the water table rises and many people live literally in water.
Why were they allowed to settle there? The Cape Flats is wet.
People get sick and the biggest concentration of TB in the world is in the Western Cape.
People with AIDS that get TB are certain to die. TB is a death certificate for a AIDS carrier. I have lost one staff member 3 years ago and another has been diagnosed as well. In each case it is the same.
AIDS + TB = Certain Death
It is a horrible death.
I will never forget the letter the one lady wrote to me about how sick she was and how her chest hurt. We paid for her to see proper Doctors, not the Clinics that dish our Panados and Medical Notes to get off work.
Two months later she was dead.
What started as Bronchitis became TB plus the fact she had AIDS was certain death for her. :(
A really sad state of affairs.
I am so scared of getting TB from my staff. Another staff member has been diagnosed with TB last week.

Yet I hear they are closing another Hospital.
Victoria Hospital is going to be closed.

Rates:
As a Ratepayer it is literally hopeless to expect anything for the money we pay to Council.
Council need every penny for housing for the poor.
Not that I am moaning or anything, but in all earnest will I ever get anything for the money I pay every month besides the Rubbish collected once a week?

They will be building houses for the poor until I am old and grey, but will they ever catch up?

You know I always laff my ass off when I hear these okes where promised more jobs and free houses.

How bout getting off your a$$ and making something of yourself instead of waiting for a handout.

I was at the water and light department the other day, saw a Ekurhuleni (whole of east rand) news brochure bragging about the ten thousand "homes" that were build. When I laughed and remarked at the stupidity and stated that at that rate it will take them 200 years to catch up with today's shortcomings and then only to find out the population growth (exponentially)exceeded what they were supposed to be building. Her reply was that it is the fault of all the aliens from Zim and others. Their ingress is higher that the supply can handle! WTF! I was only talking of the local backlog!

You hit the nail on the head there Vio.
Make some effort.

One sees these Bishopcourt Types trying to pretend to be helping in winter with Soup etc. But as my wife says there are woman over there. What is wrong with them. Can't they do kitchen duty?

My own staff complain how lazy their people are and I think this is the bulk of the problem.

In Cape Town we have a scenario where people coming from the Eastern Cape apply for houses. When and if they do get one, they essentially own two houses as they also have a house in the Eastern Cape.
Then to make a quick buck out of the system they go live back in a shanty and rent the house out.
This is happening - my staff are witness to this practice.

South Africa is under an invasion of foreigners.
The Zimbabweans have stuffed their own country up and now they come here to sponge off us.

Estimates of 10 million or more are living in SA with no papers.

That is a tragedy - where are the hundreds of people going to go that queue there everyday? Groote Schuur? If they were closer to Groote Schuur they would go there in the first place.

Housing should have been a national priority since 94 - paid for by gub not ratepayers! But who cares - life is good on the gravy train.

I wonder how many houses could have been built with the 2010 SWC budget

But of course staging the WC is more important than housing or looking after the poor in the country or delivering on promises made to the ppl.

Priorities are seriously stuffed in this land of ours.

The plan of the gvt is to build the big stands and then once the 2010 wc is over, they just a roof over the stand and then they have housing for a few thousand

like a big xhosa village

lmfao! the zulu ppl will not be heppy!

yup, thats the problem.. this notion of free house handouts as long as you vote for them is wrong. I keep mentioning the mob is growing, cause realty is it really is growning, FAST! and if the service demands this yr was bad well.. Just think in another 2yrs we could have a zim situation in SA  cause the gov don't seem to be putting a move on it.

Today I drove past the N2 gateway housing thing.. has anyone really looked at it? Its freaking tiny compared to the massasive squatter camp on that side of the road, not even looking at the other side closer to the airport. Also why does it look like they have stopped building completely? Is that ALL that they intend to build or is more in the works cause it looks like all the equipment is gone.

Well the anc have given their supporters a lot of stuff for free and now they want everything for free. There are lots of whites, coloureds, indians and black people that came out of really poor households and didnt get any handouts and worked to get where they are today
