Is Download via DSTV disk still around ?

Years back there was a method to download via a port on your DSTV decoder & the up link via a modem. Is this still around. I dont see any thing on Mnet's site

Anyone know.

back then apparently it was like R300 for the setup on your existing dish, would be great with dsl!!!! - but doubt its still around.

I believe its still around.

1 way was getting it through Worldonline (not sure what happened there).
Another was to get it through mweb.

The nice thing is while local was still uncapped on telkom accounts you could use this with your adsl for the uplink and the satelite for the downlink.

Problem is, it was really fast back in the days and then later on they shaped it to a maximum of 10-12k/s if you are lucky else it might even have dropped as low as 8-9k/s most of the time.

Whether you went with WOL or Mweb both their products used infosat as the bandwidth supplier which in turn used IS.

Latencies to local over this would be about 400-500ms and to international about 700-900ms.

As to what protocols worked on it, the setup use a VPN account to connect the dish and thus any protocal that you can use on the internet worked on this connection.

The most expensive part about this whole story is the satellite DVB reciever card which can cost you R400-1000 2nd hand or R1000-2700 brand new depending on make/model/features.

Then many people would tell you you need a 2nd reciever thingy on your dish which is imho a waste of money and kinda expensive on its own. For my personals setup I used the pass-through option on the DSTV decoder and lucky for me both Infosat/DSTV used the same range on the satellite to recieve data from but I think that was intended as it was newer settings at that time instead of the old range settings.

Is internet acces via the DSTV dish currently abailable?
