The 17 promises SA must keep for 2010

SOUTH AFRICA has given world soccer body Fifa 17 guarantees as part of the contract to host the 2010 World Cup.

These are:

•Home Affairs: Three guarantees saying no one will be denied a visa on the basis of race, nationality or religion; work permits will not be required for World Cup staff, and media and special port entry facilities will be set up for 2010 visitors.

•Finance:Three technical guarantees relating to customs duties and levies, other taxes and bank and foreign exchange operations.

•Safety and Security: A detailed, written security plan will be prepared to ensure the safety and security of Fifa delegations, media and accredited officials in the country.

•Communications: Four technical guarantees covering minimum information technology resources, an international broadcasting centre, a media centre and Fifa’s ownership of all media and marketing rights.

•Transport: Minimum standards of transport comfort and efficiency around stadiums and other venues.

•Environment and Tourism: A 2010 pricing policy will protect visitors against exploitation.

•Trade and Industry: Detailed commitments guaranteeing Fifa’s marketing rights and the rights of official sponsors, including protection against ambush marketing by rival brands.

•Justice: A limited indemnity for officials.

•Foreign Affairs: No country will be excluded from participation and all will be able to play their national anthems and fly their national flags.

•Health: The health infrastructure will be “significantly upgraded”, emergency and disaster facilities will be at the disposal of Fifa, and teams and delegations will be free to bring their own doctors.

It surprises me that the safety and security doesnt extend to the fans. I also wonder what the minimum information technology resources consist of.
 
The 3 promises SA will make for FIFA.

1. Rape as much as possible tourists
2. Murder as much as possible tourists
3. Hijack as much as possible tourists

And you base that on what? Blind faith? 'Cause it can't be on current progress.
 
Imagine having to promise safety, or better transportation. These things should be a reality with out having to be guaranteed for a soccer competition.
 
I was at JIA on friday and I cna tell you, the place was in chaos. There were large queues for everything, from buying a ticket to checking in ... all I could think of ... was .... how the hell will we ever be able to cater for all those visitors come 2010 .... The ACSA has a lot of work to do to get ready.
Personally I hope they achieve all of the minimum requirements and more ... as that will only help the ppl of this country ... as that is the only way gov is going to get any of this done for them ... eg. the public transport system.

History is full of countries being denied participation in games due to wars and politics.
 
You should have written in more barbaric terms so that this retarded government can understand! Maybe do a cover in all 11/12 official languages!!

i think the world cup will happen here - it shouldnt, but the guilt of the west will insure it.

I will bet though it will be the first and last world cup EVER held in this country and i also bet it will be NO WHERE near the world cup pulled off by the Germans.
 
Well I am glad that some of the powers that be went to Germany to see how things are done, I hope they do not kid themselves that it will be a alright-on-the-night affair

I do not see any mention of the Git-Train.... or is it the get-a-gun train.... Maybe it's part of the transport thing

Advertising could be a nightmare, maybe they could try the laugh in the face of disaster news reading that Radio 5 (now 5FM) used to do, when there was only bad news, they used to read it like a joke or funny story.... still boils over a bit today with people in the studio trying to make the news reader laugh - I often wonder do the fudge their lines and mess around with the sound bites on purpose or do they really not have a clue what they are doing

They really have no idea what they're doing. Infuriating - newsreaders on sabc - make it up as they go along. 5 has become a danger to mental health.
 
They should add more to that list like - provide a clean evironment. I think most german's will get a heart attack when they see the rubbish lying around in the streets like Eloff (most expensive street in monopoly)

What I don't understand, noticed it when I was coming through passport control at JIA a few weeks ago, might have been like that for a while and I didn't see, but the line for SA citizens is now, SA and African states. Did I miss something and is there now common African citizenship like in the EU for European citizens? Only place I've ever seen where it takes longer for citizens to clear customs than foreigners!
