The iPhone 5 has just landed in South Africa and it will be obsolete soon!
iPhone5Parts claims the 5S will be launched in the first half of 2013.

Is CellC http://www.cellc.co.za/99c-build-your-own-contract still the best deal for a new iPhone 5?

It will only be announced at the conference in June with availability in the US shortly afterwards.

Apple is definitely loosing their touch and will have to come up with a pretty big bunny to pull out of the hat next time around if they want to continue with the sales numbers they currently have.

Was fortunate enough to get an iPhone 5 on launch day, but must say it is sort of an anticlimax if you had a 4/4S, because short of a slightly bigger screen it brings nothing new to the table.

Battery life is still not very good and Wi-Fi issues persists.

Camera quality also is nothing to write home about.
 
It doesn't make a bit of sense for them to release a 5S model already. 5 has no trouble with processor speed, it's one of the strongest points it has going for it. The iPad3 had a relatively slow CPU and tends to get hot so it needed a refresh. I'm not feeling this particular rumour. They would then be forced to do something drastic to the chassis next year and I just don't think Apple want to do that. The 5's build should stay the same for a couple of years I think. Course I could be wrong, but I'm not buying into this one.

It would be nice to see them release a larger form phone - something to fill the gap that still exists between iPad Mini and iPhone 5. There are definitely a class of people who want that size and if they don't get it from Apple they'll go elsewhere. For me I'd rather keep my tablet big and my phone small, but I'm not everyone. There would be some problems with that but might be worthwhile for the market that's out there.

I would also describe my upgrade from a 4 to 5 as boring, but depends what your after. For me it is the next iteration of a highly functional & reliable tool. If you're looking a new gadget to tinker with, then moving to Android would probably be more exciting.

My only observation in comparison to the 4 is that the 5 is a quick little beast. Hopefully in time LTE will provide the same experience improvement with connectivity.

With you on that one, I would have preferred if they kept the 5 the same size as the 4 but with the reduced thinness.

Geesus, now that would have been a boring upgrade. The main differentiating factor between the 4 and 5 is the extra .5"...

I don't really even care about the size difference too much, it's nice but not like really something I was yearning for in my deepest heart. I'm more over the new build of the thing, the black/grey aluminum monolith thing. And the speed. It's really such a beautiful device.
 
No issues on my side using a TP-Link 2.4 300N AP with WPA2 from Sat when got my 5. Even at the extremities of my house still mostly get 4/4 signal, temporarily dropping to 3/4.

PS: Only upgraded to 6.0.2 this morning.
 
Serious wifi issues on my side with only iPhone5 (all other iOS, android and windows devices works fine)...unable to connect to network. When it does connect, no data is flowing. Poor signal strength too.

I will try the WEP workaround now, but not at all impressed with this Apple issue. The guys in the US have struggling with this issue since September, and 6.0.2 is not helping at all.

Yea ... always a great thing with Apple giving the latest and greatest software to the legacy products!

Always wondered how the 3GS though ... how is Siri? Panaramic photos? Turn by Turn? Flyover? Shared Photostreams? VIP lists?

EDIT : Oh ... right ... it's not *quite* 6.01
 
There almost 400 new features between 4.3.5 and 6.01. Running on 256mb of ram it's nothing short of a minor miracle 6.01 runs on a 3GS. Yes they going to be compromises and thank you for highlighting them but to claim the 5 is obsolete cause the 5s MAY launch some time next year is ridiculous.
