Hey

Does anyone know of an MTN store in jhb that has stock of the Iphone 5 for an upgrade?
Ive been calling all the place looking for stock and nobody has.
I so dont wanna wait till next year for the upgrade.

I Start work really early like 2nd Jan:(

MTN should have a central system with stock control that should be able to tell you who has/where.

If I were you I'd wait for the iPhone 5S due for release next year

Too much waiting I think. Been waiting since the 4.

Yeah I cant wait any longer too and its only been 3 months since the Iphone 5 was released, I doubt a new one will be released anytime soon, my guess its just gonna be announced in June then an october release if a new one is in the works. Nowadays phones come in and go so we cant keep up with the trends unless we can afford to buy it cash otherwise we have to wait 2 years at a time. I mean even the samsung guys have rumors of a new S4 or something so nobody wins no matter what brand.

I asked the guys at MTN for iPhone 5 and they told me "only in January" (hence I ported my number and got it from Vodacom already)...
It's a bit of a pain as MTN is good network (used it for 7 years now), but their "speed" costed them yet another client

MTN shop in Melrose Arch: Maybe on friday 28.
iStore in Melrose Arch: they received 20 (yes, twenty) for MTN contracts since launch. They may receive more after xmas, but no confirmation.

iStore eastgate has plenty stock, you can do upgrades there.

I kicked up a storm over at MTN regarding this worked there for 7 years and sent a few emails to some contacts trying to find out what was going on. Group executives office phoned me and said that at launch they only had 800 units for the Country 20 of which went to retentions. They have been coming in drips and drabs after launch but there is still a huge block log of orders. I was promised a unit first week of January. To be honest I might just jump ship this time around and look at Lumina 920.

Don't do that to your self - be patient as it does pay off...
Tested Lumina and I can say that after using iPhone from first gen. that came to SA - my next phone after iPhone 5 will be - the next iPhone...
I did try Samsung (almost even took it), Nokia and HTC - big NO :)

P.S.I don't want to make this thread iPhone vs The World...just giving my opinion...
If you want to take any other phone - try it first and make your decision from there...

Just so that I understand, you are complaining because they won't give you special preference?

Also, as per my post above yours, the iStores do have stock(and lots of it) so why not go get an upgrade there? Vodacom gave me the same backorder bs, I got one from an iStore with no issues. Give them a try:)

According to the info supplied by iStores:

The carrier companies (mtn, voda, bta, cellc) import the devices and they distribute them to the shops. So... iStores may have stock for certain suppliers and not others. When I checked on the iStore on Melrose, they have stock for vodacom and 8ta only. Also they have plenty of stock if you want to buy cash.

iStore Sandton City was the same. No stock for MTN. iStore Eastgate same story, plenty for Vodacom or 8ta. Nothing for MTN.

And they cannot give an iPhone that is from Vodacom or other carrier to a MTN client (for obvious reasons).

Probably iPhone 5 for MTN will only be "freely available" around the second week of Jan.
