I just got my N91 delivered about 10 mins ago.I am charging it as I type, I've been looking forward to this phone for a while because of the 4Gb HDD,USB 2 and the mp3 player.I have to admit that it's not the prettiest phone I've ever seen :(

If anyone else has one plz post some feedback/tips/problems for the phone

The phone is awesome, It's unlike any other phone that I've had up to date.I just plug in the usb and voilla i have a 4GB external HDD.It also transfers files/playlists straight from media player.I can plug proper earphones into the phone and use it as a Ipod.It can do WLAN as well.I wonder if I can watch movies on it?

I'm not sure if I am doing everything right but it's slow as a HDD it takes +- 25min to copy a 2GB file, this is worrying as it has USB v.2 but it's called miniUSB so maybe it's just slower than proper USB.

I'm only getting started and I haven't even checked out the built-in tutorial or figured out what visual radio is.

It has the best calender system I've ever seen and I know that I will use it a lot:D

I'll keep posting as I figure out more
 
I waited for this for for months. Then 2 months ago it still wasn't here, and then i saw some more pics of it and saw how ugly it really was and decided to get myself an N70.

The features on the N91 are very nice, i must admit, but i don't like it's appearance.
 
Now that you mention it Creed I dont remember seeing the speed (rpm) of than 4GB hdd anywhere...
it's gonna be pretty slow if it is only 4200. Hopefully it will be at least 5400, or (holds thumbs) 7200, but then you shouldn't be getting such slow speeds.
he HDD probably also dont have a cache / buffer.... :(

Does it not state somewhere in the manual what the speed / specs of the 4GB hdd is?

lol, I was just about to post that from the exact same site. :p

I for one like it's design, and I'v been waiting for it to be released learly for nearly a year now. And now I'm just waiting for the local MTN shop to get stock. :mad:

I am considering the N91 but I am not particularly fond of the HDD idea, I prefer flash memory. I have a bad habit of throwing my phone around and im sure the N91's HDD wont like it.
 
Its not really a bad design just the kinda slide thing I dont like, my contract expires in October but I will rather go for a n70 or se k800i its its released by then

What are you guys talking about? RPM?? No way. You are describing a miniture replica of a normal computer HDD.

It's more like a 4GB memory stick. It should have the same data transfer rate as any other USB 2.0 device.

You can transfer data between the computer and peripherals 40 times faster than original USB. Hi-Speed USB technology offers transfer rates up to 480Mbps (megabits per second) compared to USB 1.1 devices, which transfer at speeds of 12Mbps. For example, it would take 1.1 minutes to download a 100 MB file with USB 1.1 devices in a sustained, optimal condition, while with USB 2.0 it only takes 1.6 seconds to transfer the same file.
 
Overall I like the phone and I am happy with my choice.Thanx for the hardware specs but how long should it take to copy a 2GB file? I tried totalcopy to see what speeds I get but it wont copy to the drive:confused: so I'm not sure what speeds I get.

True, I would prefer flash aswell, but at least I think I take quite good care of my phones. :rolleyes:

@ Creed, maybe try using Total Commander to copy, it usually shows the speed of the transfer.

EDIT: Creed, how's the screen? I saw on one review they said it isn't so good.

Btw who really cares about looks anymore. With functionality like that, who needs separate ipods, usb drives, etc. People who show off how their phone looks are no less annoying than the idiots who always have to publically display their ringtones :p

Well according to the specs 4-8Mbits it does not really matter what version of USB you r running, as it will not even take full adv. of USB1. Still 20+ min is too long, at the stated transfer rate 7-10 min max should be a realistic expectation. I suspect the problem lies in some kind of driver issue or windows drive cache settings.

Microdrives are small hard drives.
 
8Mbit/s -> 1Mb/s; 2Gb -> 2048Mb; gives around 35 minutes.

8Mbits/s is close to USB 1.1 maximum real performance so USB 2 is better.

I'm pretty sure every review I read indicated the phone uses a microdrive and is very, very slow. Of course the speed could just be flaky Nokia firmware.
