A quick question. If I get a 1GB prepaid account from Web Africa, does this account close at the end of the current month, no matter what day of the month I buy it? Or does it last for a month from the day I purchase the account? Or does it carry over each month until I have used up my 1GB cap? (So if I only use 200MB per month, it should last 5 months?)

Your third option is correct - It carries over each month until used up.
 
It's a genius system.

Type in your Credit Card number, how many gigs you want and they email you your username and password. Under 3 Minutes and you have access. I've been using my 1Gig for 5 months now for the end of the month when i'm capped. It's like prepaid cellphone airtime and never expires. Their usage monitor page is also brilliant, showing you graphs of each day upload/download etc. Well done webafrica.

i'm also using there Prepaid.

Yup - another satisfied customer. I put all my customers on the prepaid account to check their average usage, and then move them over to the relevant fixed cap accounts after a while.
 
So I've just bought a prepaid 1GB account, was online 5 mins later. Thanks web africa.

Funny thing, im still waiting for the technician to come and "install" my line. I got fed up with waiting, they said "maybe today", so I plugged everything in, my modem said I had connectivity, so I bought the webafrica prepaid account, and now im online. When the technician comes to install the line I can tell him thanks but no thanks. Unfortunately they still gonna charge me over R400 installation charge I bet.
 
The thing you can do before the technician comes is cancel the callout. Just phone them and tell them that you don't need a technician to come out, you did a self installation. Thenl they can't charge you the installation fee. If they give you crap, come back and tell us ;)
 
Apparantly you have to sign a piece of paper saying that they installed you're internet. So if a techie comes just tell him that you did it yourself and that he doesn't have to charge installation. The first month that you get billed for adsl, you will see that they charged you installation. Just call the accounts department and try get it remeoved ;) Hope it works.

Did you do the test thing that you have to do when you first get you're line installed? It's a page on telkoms website that you have go to, it tests the internet and then you have to wait 40 minutes for it to reconnect.
 
bullfrog, I did a self-install and I didn't have to sign a piece of paper.
And luckily for me, my line was activated within 7 days =D
 
I'm a total newbie to ADSL - I must confess.
I have only been using my cellphone as a modem or datacard to connect.

My question is : To use WebAfrica all you have to do is get an ADSL line installed from Telkom, and then buy the 1gig bandwidth from WebAfrica. Am I right?

Second question: How do I install ADSL myself - without Telkom?

Yeah, just don't sign a contract with Telkom and rather buy your own modem.
Web Africa can set you up very quickly, as I said their system is quite jacked up.
All you'll need is the line from Telkom.
As to the second question, I think that is a grey area as they said I couldn't do it myself, even though there are claims from people who have done this...
 
I installed it myself. Just plug in your modem/router, stick a micro filter on each of your phone lines. I only have one output so I just needed one. As long as telkom has enabled you on their side, it should work fine.
