Another site "Why South Africa is Great"

We have a democracy applauded throughout the world, a constitution which is the envy of most people in the world, a culture of Ubuntu, world class cities, juxtaposed against the most beautiful wildlife and natural wonders.

We have some of the greatest thinkers of all time, living amongst us,

We are the powerhouse of Africa, a continent poised on the verge of becomming extremely prosperous

It is Africa's time - and we're right here - nowhere else I'd rather be

Or the most violent country in the world.
1st in the world for rapes, 1st in the world in car accidents, 2nd in the world for murders. Boy ain't this country great !
And if you don't like it move out !

None of our cities are world class as they lack that basic services that would make them so. The rest of you post is opinions and you are entitled to yours.

Prime Minister John Howard's decision to seek a fifth term appeared Tuesday to have boosted his government's re-election hopes and cemented his standing as one of the world's most successful conservative leaders.

A fifth term, and some people call South Africa a banana republic, there are dictators who are envious of the amount of time he has spent in office

And Australia is meant to be a progressive country, thank God we have a truly functional democracy, where our leaders know when to step down and hand over to new leadership

Would you please elaborate on this point? Who and why would be a good start.

Hopefully this wont go too far offtopic but could you justify why you believe this to be true?

mmm, in the greater scheme of things, the only time Africa will ever be "up there" is when the rest of the world has been annihilated. Sadly, as long as America and Europe and to a lesser degree China call the shots, Africa will never ever amount to anything. And sorry to be so negative, but with the current governments in place all over Africa, I'm sad to say that Africa will certainly never become a world power, not until all the third world problems are completely removed - once and for all.

kingmonty : True, but we are rising up the ranks fast. The EU now wants a special relationship with SA (The same relationship that has been reserved for the US, Russia and Japan until now).
SA has many problems, but we seem to be moving upward despite them. The problem will come when these problems prevent any further upward movement. We need to start working on these problems now, so that in the future, they will not pose as big of a problem as they could
