Post Office to stick to path of profitability

Nice for them.. what would be nice for me is if I received my package that was sent to me over a week ago from just over 100km away.
 
do people actually still use them?! DHL and others way better
 
i guess you mail spam too.it's like spam emails just slower:p
 
I dunnoh - the Post Office has usually been okay for me. However, CapeMail and SARS are the absolute spawn of Satan. Several times I remember packages getting basically 50% taxation (e.g. $55 package with duties of R204!!!). The inspectors have attitudes last seen in the apartheid era (I mean, not racial attitudes, but general disposition). I'm sure there is a truckload of corruption going on.

South Africa is probably amongst the top three most expensive countries to courier to/from. I found this out when swapping goods with someone I met through eBay. He couldn't believe our courier charges. It makes it very difficult for small local businesses to export (never mind the ridiculous telecomms charges if you decide to set up an e-commerce site).

I'm all for much looser import tariffs in general. I don't agree with the practice of protecting uncompetitive industries indefinitely.
