that aside, theres not really much room for small businesses to advertise online.
Being screwed many moons ago by Mweb Business (easy info) and i personally know of 5 other companies who had to take legal action against "Easy Info".
That aside, the SA online publishers want too much money to advertise. They dont get the fact that its a new medium and all want to sign customers into year long contracts. And hey, some of their pricing is ridiculous.
Look at all the publisher websites in SA 24.com, iol.co.za, etc. Now look at all their advertisers. Its either Dial Direct/Outsurance (who they are affiliates) or some Casino (with a massive marketing budget) or Car Manufacturers with an equally huge budget. Oh and banks.
Any of the local IT online stores advertise? Any of the medium to small Isp's advertise?
no. ask them why. cost.
very little if any returns on Banner advertising.
Heck our site gets 80 000 visitors a month and 1.5mill page impressions yet we do NO banner advertising. All our visitors/customers are through our existing newsletter, and various print adverts.
Until these online publishers realise that they'll have to come in with some really cheap packages to attract smaller businesses nothing will change.
And smaller business's will in turn need to make their websites work for them. You cant have a MS Published 5 page company profile jobbie and expect to get income from that.
