I purchased a Vodacom branded Nokia Lumia 800, and when inserting my MTN sim card, the phone registered the sim card, and showed that it had full 3G signal. However if i tried to browse the internet, the page load timed out and i could not load the page.

I went to an MTN store in Fourways, and was advised to leave my number so they could contact me when a Nokia technician would be available (once a month) to fix the problem. However i found this very inconvenient as it would disrupt my schedule. After searching online for solutions, I came across a simple solution which worked for me. Please note that this solution does require either a WiFi connection or a sim card that does have a working data connection.

1. Download and install the "Network Setup" app made my Nokia Corporation.

2. Insert the MTN sim card into the phone if you used a different sim card to download the app, or

3. Run the "Network Setup" app on your phone. The app should automatically detect what network settings are required.

4. Leave the app, and test if you can open a web page. (Ensure WiFi is disabled for this step)

+1 Had to help my friend with this issue a couple weeks ago. Luckily the new firmware comes with Network setup pre-installed on the phone.
