Best prices for AMD 939 FX60 and 4800+

Need your guys help and advice ...

Firstly who has the best prices on the FX60 and 4800+

Rectron has the FX60 for R7746 and the 4800+ for R5000 (no AMD price drops for rectron)
Prophecy has the FX60 for R7842 and the 4800+ for R2694
Cyberdyne dont have any prices for the FX 60 or the 4800+

If i buy a 4800+ can i easily overclock it to FX60 speeds without additional cooling, this question is for those the 4800+ ... btw what is the difference apart from clock speeds between the 4800+ and FX60?
 
pc international http://www.pcint.co.za have the 4800 for R2600 incl.

it is easy to oc a 4800 to fx60 speeds, just raise the clock by 200mhz, which is no problem with stock cooling. Both have the toledo core, so same l2 cache size. The real difference between the fx 60 and 4800 is the overclocking ability of the fx60, which has an unlocked multiplier for easy overclocking.

wonder if the CPU from PC international is boxed with the fan or not
 
Why do you want an AMD? At the moment, the intel chips are definately WAY better. Why not buy one of them?
 
Maybe because the Intel's aren't exactly cheap. There isn't really a worthwhile board right now and maybe because it's easier to get a 4800+ than an E6600 which is probably the star of the whole lineup.

R2600 for 4800+ vs R3,400 or for E6600.
Great 939 boards like DFI SLI-Expert or A8n32-SLI (or AM2 boards for that matter like M2N32-SLI) for R2K while conroe boards are almost 3K for the few good ones.

But it is right though, the intel's are faster. :)
 
yup intel are a very stupid company


if their cpu's where cheap enough they could shut amd down because of the quality of their new cpu', but no instead they make everything so damn expensive :)

i really dont want to spend a whole lot ... jus a CPU upgrade for now, which will reduce the CPU bottle-neck my current SLI system is suffering with ... when DX10 is here i will overhaul my PC :D
 
yes but price wise you would be better off with a 3800+ dual core or even 4400+

For R7700 that ur willing to spend on a single AMD CPU, you can buy the Intel "Bad Axe" board, a E6600 CPU and 2Gb of Ram. (still have some change left.)
And now ur from enrty level pc, to almost state of the art. :D
 
ya if you look at it ghz wise maybe but... perfomance wise intel will f%#k amd inn the ars. if you go to any forum on earth they will say intel have finally after years of trying beat amd to the ground. its more like amd didn't work enough and intel haven't stoped working so... its up to you.
 
i know those intel chips are faster ... BUT ... i got a 939 board and am not going for the FX60 anymore ... so i want the 4800+ because of the toledo core ... so far the best price is R2600 ... any e-tailer or retailers cheaper than that? i am hunting for the best price ... help me guys ... please :(
 
R2,600 is about the best you're gonna get.
4800+ is a great CPU esp since you should be able to make 2.6GHz or even 2.8GHz which would givew you FX-62 like performance :)

If you play high resolution games at like 1600x1200+ then what CPU you have is not going to matter as that's just GFX card there and nothing else.
 
Got it ... overclocked it already ... slowly does it ... at 2.5Ghz for now! ... cool ... :D

Mmm i would have suggested wait a month or so before price cuts kick in completely, but wow! R2600 for the 4800 is pretty darn good :D

got it for R2500 incl from ComputeIT ... guy called Carl Fung :)

ok tried to go from 210 FSB to 215 ... windows would start up with errors ... so staying at 210 for now ... running a zalman 7700, its my memory im sure ....
so for now i am at 2520Mhz

Doubt if itsd the memory as 215 is only 430 which evenb the worst sets can make (save for a couple of real bad hyper-X sets).
That looks like LDT multi or CPU voltage.
 
well ok gonna read more on overclocking ... be back to post new results

a few hours later....

ok .. overclocked it to 2600Mhz ... just upped the CPU voltage a bit ... seems fine .. ran Prime95 for an hour, no errors
