No why don't I believe this? :rolleyes: Is it because of all the other failed government plans/"tough action" campaigns that are all talk and no action?

THE ANC is developing a radical new policy that will limit the number of empowerment deals its members and their spouses may make as new evidence emerged that the party’s executives are richer than ever.

The Sunday Times Rich List — published in this newspaper today
— includes details of five members of the ANC’s National Executive Committee who have a combined wealth of R1.5-billion in shareholdings alone.

The ANC is considering imposing a five-year cooling-off period to bar officials from doing business in the area they managed while in government. And it wants to ensure that spouses do not get business deals because of their partners or their political ties.

According to BusinessMap Foundation, a business research company, about 250 empowerment deals of a disclosed value of R62-billion were concluded in 2004. Ramaphosa, Macozoma, Motsepe and Tokyo Sexwale were criticised after Ernst & Young revealed they had landed 72% of all empowerment deals in the same year.

ANC is a generalisation - who exactly is going to get tough on who...?
Who is not Fat-Cat?
 
And they wonder why telecoms problem + Telkom is still around..
 
I hope they implement this, though I don't see how they're going to achieve it.

There are many tycoon business types involved with the company: 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee, including: Tokyo Sexwale, Makhenkesi Stofile, Danny Jordaan, Irvin Khoza, Kaizer Motaung (Yes, the same Mr Motaung MD of Kaizer Chiefs and boardmember of Primedia) and more.

As a side note, South Africa's super BEE tycoon Tokyo Sexwale is an active director of 58 companies.

Looks like the gravy train is due to continue all the way through the 2010 FIFA world cup

yup, same scenario there except in that case the corporations are paying them to do things where in this case they are both corporation + ministers

Well maybe the ANC should start to explain why they received money from Mr. Kebble ... and for what it was used.

His actions are entirely necessary - as are others who also argue for the ANC (myself included). Without that, these forums would degenerate into a right-wing hangout. Already, the flaming that follows any posts pointing out the fallacy in many arguments is disturbing (as are the racist and anti-semitic comments, such as the one deleted last night).

As for the money "uncovered" by "forensic auditors" - so what? Without anything more to go on than the sensationalist headline of some journo, I could care less - you think other political parties do not get money from private companies / individuals? Where do you think they get there money from - trees?
