Now why didn't they apply that sort of rule to the Local Loop and the SAT3 Cable?
Instead we have to pay cost plus 400% :p or god knows what profit Telkom makes out of us from infrastructure that was essentially bought and paid for by Mr Joe Public.

Perhaps this move by Erwin is a good thing?
Not the delay of course.

What they should have done to the local loop.. keep it state owned/expanded.
 
Looks like a good development to me

BTTB : Maybe it will be siezed and handed over to infraco (Telkom gets 20% share in return?).
 
couldn't they have thought of this 2 years ago?
or 4 years ago when they started building the infrastructure...

seems like a delaying tactic to me, whether the idea is good or not...
 
alec "bolt instrumentality" erwin teams up with the dynamic miister of communications..........

need more details of what they are actually thinking (currently smells suspiciously like more government involvement in the industry and further delays)

Ok, I am probably way off here, but is this a delay because the 'gov' wants to first create a company 'it owns' to build the infrastructure?
 
On the face of it, this does not look like such a bad idea. The reason given is that it will allow the SNO to become operationally profitable earlier and thus become more competitive - and thus be able to offer lower prices. But why is this being decided now? We've been waiting for the SNO for 5 years...
 
I see another court case coming up if Nexus is not given its freeBEE share...

Not clear to me but it sounds a bit like they want to artificially create an unnecessary BEE middleman in the supply chain which will serve no other purpose than to skim off more money from the south african consumer, enriching a few politically-connected elite while pushing up prices? Or maybe I'm just cynical and been watching this corrupt SAn telecoms circus drag on for far too long.
 
Was thinking along similar lines, BEE or not I dont give a toss as its quite apparent that no matter how much money some of these okes and their families have, they will always be considered previously disadvantaged and continue to participate in BEE deals. Makes a bit of a mockery of it all but nou ja, viva and all that jazz.

My argument is levelled more towards the necessity of this new infrastructure company. It does look like an uneccesary middleman.

Yep, my immediate reaction is that after guavamint has royally stuffed up telecoms in SA, guavamint now wants to stick its fungaloid toes into the same telecoms pie that it already has all its fingers in - the result is a guavamint pie that no one wants to invest in...
