I know that some people have less than favourable opinions on the above, but yesterday I went in there looking for DVD media that my Cretaceous-period player would actually consider reading, and they gave me free samples of a couple of different types to play with.

It's a small thing, but that's the sort of action that leaves a good impression on me.

The only bad part was the fact that the wait in the shop was long enough to make me go over the 15 mins free parking. :)

Whilst on the subject, what *is* the best media to use to ensure the best possible compatibility with your average older standalone?

There, ..that's the impression they left on me, and many others I have spoken to.
Good for you tho, don't want to spoil your good vibes. :)

Natch, YMMV. And comparing buying blank DVDs to buying an expensive mobo or graphics card isn't really fair. But then I am terribly non-1337.

Yep, I just really dont like all those Chinks (great at maths though.. im no racist) that serve you. they struggle at Engilsh, and its just not nice trying to discuss a graphics card or something with them.

The place doesnt have the best prices either, so not much reason to go there really. But the internet cafe/lanning place is kind of nice, open all night too.

Indeed.
Well I don't giv a crap what nationality they are,
..what matters to me (when i actually managed to GET served!) is that they are extremely unfriendly and are quite prepared to let you stand around waiting while they go about whatever they are doing rather leisurely.
Told me my case would be ready, I go there, ..!?!?!? what, no apologies, just blank faces, no phone call.. etc. etc.
F!@">!@#": ROBOTS!!!!
My apologies to robots actually, it takes a human to treat others like that!

I think the internet cafe closes at like 11 or 11:30 or something now. Btw i've also had bad service from them but also ok perfomance from other sales reps. So it depends who you deal with i suppose. The one time i asked how much a harddrive cost and they immediately started billing me for it. There was one guy though who was really enthusiastic about graphics cards and mobos.

The last thread about Cafe Viva was less than complimentary. A critical summary would be as follows:

They are mean.
They don't communicate well.
They are sometimes rude & unhelpful.
They have a confrontational returns policy.
They lack decent after-sales support.
Their internet cafe is expensive, under-equipped and restricts downloads to 5Mb + their printers also frequently don't work.

(That was all on the first page  )

After reading the above, I tried them and found some of the accusations true - particularly point 2, 3 & 6. Hopefully they have taken the comments to heart and the previous post (about giving free samples to try) is an attempt to get a better reputation. Sadly, it just takes one bad experience for us never to return.
