Good morning MTN. Well, it would be if you didn't cut my internet. All was running well. The speed was so much better (seems your throttling goes a bit more than advertised). But now I have NO DATA coverage this morning. And you are clearly ignoring me. So here the deal: fix it. Oh and if you can have someone maybe call and tell me what I've done to deserve such horrible service, that'd be appreciated.

I also have nothing, no data, no access to the internet. NOTHING.

I've just gotten off the phone with MTN and guess what, the operator said there in nothing wrong with the network. After she told me that I just put the phone down, didn't want to start screaming and cursing at her here at work...

Where are you based?

I am having a full go at MTN myself - we have 3 towers "down" in the North Riding, JHB area - full strength 3G/HSPA+ signal but horrible throughput and latency issues. Constant dropping of connection and having to refresh to get the simplest of web pages to load.

I am "hammering" them on Hellopeter.com & constantly sending mails to the coverage desk / MTN Direct personnel for some kind of answers - to date not resolved and problems have been experienced since 21 January 2013. Heavily congested makes it a nightmare for anyone to use properly.

Typical capitalist behaviour as they simply do not care about our gripes and the fact we are paying for services we cannot make use of. Think I will be making a stink at one of their outlets by next week if not resolved. Someone needs a klap

I'm in Pretoria East, Murrayfield (live) and Brummeria (work). Yesterday it was fine, since 03:00 this morning I haven't been able to access the internet at all, at home and at work.

Nee my hel kyk MTN is sommer net k*k

Moet oorskuif ADSL/fibre optic so gou moontlik - sal seker nog moet sukkel van tyd tot tyd maar nie so erg soos met die geel monster. Pity ons het nie infrastruktuur hier nie.

MTN soek net mens se geld, daylight robbery!

Now not only is my data line off, but no my cellphone has no coverage. None. And my colleague sitting right next to me (also on mtn) has signal. Wow...

MTN Data totally dead here in White river today....phone network works though.

Using my Voda connection at the moment and Voda was totally dead here on Saterday....I think all these ISPs have an agreement amongst themselves to take it in turns to take the day off.:wtf:

Won't surprise me in the least - that is capitalist thinking.

Why worry to repair/maintain/provide a service if the consumer is locked in a 24 month contract? Absolutely pathetic

They generate revenue regardless of service status.

Very lucky. I have 11mbps dl speeds or higher on speednet and decent upload speed.

Will post results when I'm home next week - yet I cannot game on international servers, like I have done in the past 4 months, even with 230ms latency due to congestion issues/lack of everything imaginable :wtf:

Looks like it's all over South Africa. Well, they did say intermittent speeds until the 8th of March. So now we wait.
We can't cancel our contracts so we might as well take the *** and go on paying for something we can't use. This is what gets me...once you sign on the dotted line...you are sooooo screwed.

Where did they say intermittent speeds? Thats a load of bullsh*t. They are taking us for a ride and cannot cope.

We will have same issues come 9 March and beyond.

Test conducted on 24 February 2013 08:36:05 PM

Download Speed: 7397 kbps (924.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 915 kbps (114.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 245 ms

This is worrying :erm:

You are liars of the highest calibre!
You tell me on Hellopeter.com that all I need to do is fill out a form and send it to Coverage. You do realise that slow data does NOT FALL WITHIN THE RANGE OF COVERAGE?!?

This is what I got:
Good Day,

Kindly call your Service Provider Data Support Helpdesk for further assistance with slow speed problem, because coverage department only deal with providing signal.

Kind Regards,
Thembi Hlongwane

I have had it!

How is that worrying- calculate properly and you will see that its a 7mb download speed. the latency is a bit high though, other than that i dont see a problem. I also live in Northriding, across from Northriding shopping centre where my serving site is situated and i agree though- after 6:30pm i dont even bother on the data side of things cause of its heavy congestion...

the coverage team would refer throughput issues to both planning and transmission, whereby the congestion levels would be looked at and a way forward would be implemented, so yeah, coverage is the right place to go actually.

Any idea as to what the way forward is, as explained by MTN? I only get a chance to bang away on international servers after work and the odd weekend.

Latency usually stays around 230 - 245ms which is acceptable, but due to the congestion you can do absolutely nothing with your data connection most of the time, or as MTN would put it, "peak" time.

They have too many users on a dying old k*k infrastructure, that they fail to maintain and do the necessary upgrades to, to avoid such issues. Dealing with the coverage desk is a laugh a minute - they are useless!

Wtf? Nothing is fixed!

Yheah it is all over south Africa. Even here in the middle of the kalahari desert on our hsdpa tower MTN sucks

at least you have a 3G signal.

On their coverage map I'm covered with 3G, yet I can barely manage Edge.

Latency = 6600
DL speed = 0.1 kbps
UL speed = 0.0 kbps

Luckily it only takes 3 mins to open the mobile news24 site.
