Telkom welcomes the new ICASA ADSL Regulations

Well duh... it's a toothless document that at most puts Telkom (and everyone else) in the position they were in before November 2005 when Telkom decided to get rid of unlimited local bandwidth. Let's look at an example. In the new regulations Telkom has to install ADSL within 30days. If they don't what is supposed to happen? Are there fines stipulated anywhere? Is there some recourse the customer can take? No? Then it's a useless regulation.
Daveogg's post in another thread goes through the rest of the supposed regulations that will help consumers and shows why they're still useless.
If that's the case one quick question. Where is the discount internet rate for schools as mandated by government two frickin' years ago?

Hey, im happy. Well I would be if I was on ADSL, minimum speeds and uncapped local back and no shaping.. poor IS, they pretty screwed now, but I guess they have loyal users.

What happened with the previous regulations? Telkom the threatened to withdraw ADSL from South Africa. So when it suits them they conduct their business within its regulatory framework, otherwise they threaten total disruption.
well think about it when telkom does withdraw from the regulations and drops south-africa the new companies like AT&t or virgen or whoever can walk in and safe the day
i'll be glad if they decide that
there's gonna be more bussiness for vodacom and mtn (3g broadband) etc when telkom leaves ... dunno could work thou

Yip was thinking exactly the same thing as I read the article
that'l be nice and it's not like they are going to - when they leave the country take all the copper lines with them and the exchange building etc

wait a minute! if the icasa act say's unlimited local bandwith that means other isp's can give cheaper packages in that bring in competion again? (like the access 30gig package for R270 a month)
