No more ADSL Access Charges from Telkom?

Watch Lulu go from stating that Telkom operates in the regulatorly framework to "we will cancel the provison of ADSL" if this is true
 
At this stage it is a bit unclear on how the road ahead will look like, but given a few weeks, things should start to get clearer.
 
when do these things come into affect?
 
Not too sure on this. Provisioning also requires a DSLAM for example.

So, what exactly are "provisioning charges" if not a fee to be paid for the utilisation of the copper and the DSLAM (and whatever other components are needed)?
 
The burning question is when does telkom start to adhere to these regulations, this article could mean some good news to the whole country, but when? Starting yesterday? End of this month?

We need an article on that too rpm ;)

Hi MrG

I have just spoken to ICASA, and it is immediately in effect after it has been Gazetted (it is therefore in effect already). I will get some clarity on legal issues later...

Which might be a problem: DSLAMs are expensive. So look to install prices trippling. Or something equally absurd.

Yeah - however, even if install prices went to R4000, I would still be saving money by now...


But, Telkom will do as Telkom does.
 
ROFL, Oh man i wonder if Telkom are sorry for their acceptance speach they made :cool: Can't wait for nxt months telephone bill.
 
all telkom will do is increase your monthly "provision charge" as they do with ISDN. So, instead of paying a line rental of R80 and an ADSL "line rental" of R400, we'll end up paying a monthly "provision charge" of R480 ... so don't get your hopes up on only paying R80 pm for ADSL.

what things? i mean they havent really said anything specific have they?

uncapped local bandwidth?

agreed, most people prefer a once off cost rather than a monthly thing. but telkom will do whatever they feel like. so i'm not holding my breath

lol imagine how a big shortage of stock iburst will have on modems when telkom decides to stop adsl :)
