It's an additional sim above and beyond your current sim. So you'll have another "Untouched" number.:)

just had a call from VM, nu sim on the way :D
I asked if this extra or replacement sim... she says no, when receive, u gotta call them, & all details be copied, then u can chuck the 'old' sim.
I actually thought it wuda been better to have it as an additional (working) sim. Then we can keep nu sim in data card, use the old 1 for voice in cell, then they can also make more munny out of us, make up sum of the cost of these replacement expenses.
anyways... here's to web connecting the VM way! :p

Well I got the sim and when I popped it in I picked up Vodacom 3g for a moment. Then everything disappeared. I can’t seem to pick up Vodacom 2g signal in edenglen and that works with virgin ...( I think ... PLEASE CONFIRM AND ADVICE...)..... I am waiting for my antenna that should be here today and hopefully I should be able to pickup Vodacom 2g so that I can connect to the virgin network and mtn 3g.

I do but is very bad. Anyway i got my anntena today and virgin does work in the data card. The bad news is that i still get a decent 3g signal. I dont even get 1 bar on my tower so then i goes back to gprs/edge.

@Uli - don't feel alone. I don't get decent 3G at my place either and the VC access is pathetic via GPRS. The worst is everytime the signal drops down to GPRS on VC, the card disconnects. I have dumped that idea. MTN and VM is excellent on EDGE.

I tried it earlier tonite, it still takes a while to connect, but at least now it works. The VM connection is slow again tonite though, and after about 40mins died... shows connected, but no browsing & transfers, maybe network prob. Will try again later.

Its a pleasure. I also get some speed problems with my old sim in my Jasjar. Sometimes it's very fast and sometimes pages won't open. But then again, my Jasjar only uses 3G and GPRS, no EDGE. So it can be that the GPRS times out.

Couriers have just delivered my 128K SIM, thanks Piesang I don't think this could have happened without you.
Unfortunately it seems this batch of 128K SIMs are not like the first batch of 128K SIMs that went out. These come without numbers and need to be "sim-swapped" with your old SIM, which means deactivating your old card and activating the new card. This is a show-stopper for me, I gave my son my old SIM which he has been using for the last two months, now Virgin expect me to buy a new starter pack! :mad:

I was away for the weekend, got home today and my new Virgin Mobile sim was lying on my desk. Apparently it was delivered Friday morning. So first thing tomorrow morning I'm contacting Virgin Mobile to do the sim swop then I'm on the 50c/MB wagon.;)

the VirginMobile data rates is about a quarter the price than vodacom. is the "service and reliability" worse than vodacom ? i mean if i use the gprs to connect with vodacom at the moment, but i switch it to VM would i be able to use it or is it crappy and pretty much worth only a quarter of the price?
how will i no if my new card is 128 or 256 , recieved it on tuesday

My sim is working perfectly. Speeds is not 100% what it's supposed to be. The fastest I got so far was about 74kb/s.
Must say, the wheater is not very good tonight. It's raining and that could influence the speeds.
Will let you know. Don't have problems with opening webpages. Haven't download anything yet.

I'm also linked and running - it works without the initialiasion string in the modem settings - the Huawei picked the card up and configured the settings. All running on my side - as you say speed is definately down to what it was but it is bearable if there is no ADSL available - I will take it on the road later this week and enjoy cheap mobile internet access - no worries about going over bundle - checking usage on a bundle and hoping that you will not underutilise yr bundle and loose what you paid for. That is the main reason I do not and will not buy bundles - I'd rather use slower access and not have the hassels.

Got mine today:D . It's running in my phone(Nokia6230) and datacard (E620) as well. Speed is not that great but at least I got 85kbps.
OOOh it have just disconnected:mad: . --- Connect it quickly.
I will now try and play with different settings to see if I can speed things up.

I got my 128k SIM today as well. I managed to get it working in my MTN Huawei Data card without any hassles.

I got a "Data card invalid" message from my MTN Dashboard program. It is the third time it happened tonight.
It also time-outs on web pages quite often.

Even though I did specify an alternate number, they contacted my via my VM sim in a mobile I kept with me just in case. I did not answer the first call and as it was a blocked number, I could not call back.. They did however call me the next day via VM sim.
Just to mention, are you guys keeping your mobile with the VM sim with you for the call?? called them but the old ones have not been deactivated yet...waiting for then deactivation and activation of new sims

Just received my sim, phoned the number to activate .. still at work .. with "old" vm sim in my Motorola cell phone .. if active by this evening, I will try in my Option Nozomi.

Yes .. it works. Just what I needed to fill the gap between the end of my Vodacom contract bundle and the end of the month. And seems much faster than on my old Motorola V525 phone .. great.

Speed seems good.. was getting around 160 kbps on the way here... but I'll need to test it for a while longer before I can confirm - only been using it 10 minutes.. :D

The sim swop is free. They send you a new 128k sim and then carry over your airtime to the new sim.
The old sim will be useless then.
The R1300 that she is talking about is for the Sony-Ericsson GC85 data card that VM sells.
So she has got her info mixed up.

Piesang, thks for your ongoing help for my SIM. On the matter of getting their info incorrect, VM flagship store at Sandton told me (maybe a week back back over the phone) to buy a new starter pack for getting the 128KSim. According to them, the 128K SIM is only for datacard purchases…therefore I could buy a new 128K SIM starter pack after buying a 1300Rand SonyGC85. I asked Piesang for help and presto! courier's on the way
