MPs clash over ICASA candidates

Well well, it seems that parliament is trying to make a shortlist of 20 candidates to interview, before they make a new shortlist of 8 candidates. And it seems that opposition parties are really opposed to one DoC woman on the list who has "deliberately subverting the will of the [parliamentary] committee".

This is very interesting to see how the powers that be are pushing their candidates onto the list, especially candidates who are opposed to ICASA being independent in terms of the law.
 
From what I understand, the list of 20 people is not out yet. Whats really disturbing here, the that snake Ivy is trying to get her lacky in there.

This is bad news :(
 
Considering Mbeki had to send the ICASA act back to parliament because it was not constitutional I'm not sure how keen he would be to have an ICASA councillor who was responsible prevsiouly for those crappy changes (that is if Mbeki has some say over ICASA councillors, which I doubt).
 
ANC Ltd in full swing, to be expected.

ICASA is nothing more than an ANC controlled puppet show. There might be well intentioned people there trying to watch out for the consumer, but when it comes to laying down regulations that impact on obscene profits and personal wealth, I wonder.

let me take a moment here to remind the committee of the justification for the ICASA Amendment Act and the new proposal for selecting councillors as advanced by HRH Dep MoC Roy Padayachee - we are doing this because the old process was compromised by party politicking

i hate this - utterly and totally demoralising that, not content with completely emasculating ICASA through financial controls, veto on regulations, introduction of performance management systems (answerable to the MoC), selection of a lame duck chairperson etc etc, the DoC is now blatantly trying to push through political appointees which will do the bidding of the MoC
 
No suprise if the sheep Mashila Matlala gets on to the committee. This just stinks of corruption.

And is there anywhere we can read thumbnails on the applicants At the moment it is, with one of two exceptions, a meaningless list of names.

Like nedbank say, "Who are these people?"
 
I hope the MyADSL guild makes it. If not I'll be miserable :(

We need good people on the committee that are committed to Telecoms not sum buddy buddy noobs lile Ivy's brothers sisters uncles daugters neighbours cousins boyfriend who doesn't have a gravy job.
 
58 people, 5 positions... make that 4, as it's almost certain that Matlala will get in, no doubt on the strength of her 'extensive experience in the Communications arena'. I wonder, how many others on the list are government-sponsored? As someone already noted, most of the names on the list are quite obscure. Also, on a more concrete note, exactly how many MyADSL nominees are there on the list of 58?
