No duh. The uncapped offerings artificially throttle u.
There seems to be 3 uncapped offerings out there from is at the mo.
1: "uncapped".....but not rly. Goes for bout 1400 a month and has a throttle placed into it if you go over 10gb in the first 10 days and 20 gb's in the first 20 days. If you go over the limits they half ure speed.
2: 512kb/s uncapped. You get a CISCO router installed at your premises. The speed is artificially reduced by the isp to be a maximum of 512kb/s.
3: 1mb/s uncapped. Same as the above.
Now the reason i did this write up is to show that it doesn't seem to affect IS's uncapped solutions because they will still throttle you down to ure uncapped package's maximum speed.
If i remember right the IS 1mb/s uncapped goes for R5000. Can just see them releasing a product that costs 20k for a 4mb/s uncapped solution.
I'm wondering if this ADSL speed injection from Telkodemonopolies, also marks a departure from its feeble attempt at protecting its digicrap product that some SMMEs have been forced to use - with a less expensive [up to] 4Mbits/s ADSL service available, some SMMEs will probably drop digicrap and switch to ADSL...
-nod- but they will probably keep the uplink speed low to reduce losses. It, 4mbps upgrades, will be good for business where there are a few users. I wonder if isp's uncapped solutions willcome under more pressue now.

So, imagine if we all get bumped up: 384 to 512, 512 to 1024... all for 'free'... Does this let Telkom off the hook for over-charging us for these services? Hell no!! It's smoke and mirrors. Step in the right direction my ass. It's Telkom throwing us a bone to say: "Of course the price of ADSL is coming down! Look! You're getting 512k for less than what you used to pay for 192k a few months ago!"

ok so what is the catch? when tripple play comes along your 4Mps is actually a 1Mps adsl with 3Mbps tripple crap

but ja i reckon adsl is getting more and more tempting for people with diginet.exactly. they basically giving you a "turbo" to test for them. they didnt say pay us for this, or anything, just try it, we wanna see how it works. i'm sure if you people who are complaining insist you can call telkom and ask them please keep your line on 1mbps you dont want it faster.
Things are happening , maybe not as we all want them to though . Some would have changed the cap to 10 gig first , then the speed freaks would complain of how slow we all are , that we need faster adsl .

Hell Juice, If I got 512 for less than what I was paying for my 192 a few months ago I would be pretty happy right now!! I wish what you're talking about would happen. In my opinion that wouldn't simply be a thrown bone, it would be nice tender 500g rump steak!

I agree fully lets take whatever Telkom have to offer even if it not much if we all receive it with open arms and big smiles maybe Telkom will go "hey that made them happy lets give them more and see them grin" If you look whats changed in the past year it might not be much but at least we moving foward lets be positive guys instead of moaning at even the good developments.
It seems there are quite a few people on the forums who will interject criticism anywhere. To these people I'd like to say:
No, we have not forgotten that we are being overcharged.
No, we have not forgotten that 4mbps is still not first-world quality.
No, we have not forgotten that we still have a cap.
No, we have not forgotten Telkom's current service levels.
That said:
No, we do not need you to remind us. Celebrate a step forward with us. Stop making progress seem inconsequential. The last thing you need is more fatalists, and that's all you'll get with a consistent negative outlook.

No matter what negative thoughts we might have, it is good news that we will now be alble to attain such speeds. Let's try it like Tk wants us to and see what comes out of that. They had no choice to do something about their crappy ADSL in the short term because the SNOT is coming. One thing is certain though - they will have to increase caps.

Good NEWS!
The only problem is that my company has been waiting for 6 month's already! What good is an upgrade if they cant even install the line in a fixed time period.
Maybe we must take out an add in the Beeld too, then you will see how Telkom installs the line within a few hours.

I agree I have been "negative" about the upgrading of 1meg lines to 4 meg. I still think that the price is our biggest hurdle in SA, and even though they have upgraded those people, they still need to tackle the price issue.
Maybe they have done that as a smoke screen, but we still need to remember what myADSL is here for and that is to ensure that broadband becomes a cost effective product that most South Africans can use.

Actually we're getting mixed signals here, yesterday's article simply said that the upgrade was a trial, so I expected to be upgrated to 4 Mpbs for a month, and then switched back to 1024 with the price of 4 Mbps to be announced.
Now this article on the other hand says that we're getting upgrated for FREE which if true is a GREAT news

Isn't that abit like Pick n' Pay only making money by people doing their grocery shopping, paying at the till, and not taking their shopping home? P n P then puts the groceries back on the shelf and resells them another customer.
Whole system seems either unethical, or serious screwed up.
