I can't open webpages with V Mobile!!

Hi there, can someone pls help me? I bought a V M sim a month ago for internet through my Sony Ericson V600, and it doesn't work well. I connect and everything works well, I get the message that I'm connected and everything. But when I open a webpage, thats the thing. It only downloads the page about halfway (according to explorers' green bar ) and then just stop ( according to the internet connection status ), but the green bar is still visible, and the windows' flag is waving, but nothing further happens. I can dowload emails, but not a email with a photo, because it seems it is too big. Can there be like a block somewhere, that perhaps just allow me to download to a certain point? Or where can I look? Pls help me

lol, I also thought the 'Connected' status in Windows told me that I was CONNECTED, seems I was wrong. Even the 'G' on one's phone do not even Guarantee it that you’re connected correctly to the internet!

To help you out i'll first need to know,
You bought you SIM a month ago, did you start using it immediately? Or did you only discover this problem now when you started using it?
Does your internet work fine using your mobile browser?
What program do you use to download your emails?

Hi Id13, thanks for the reply. When I first got the sim, I downloaded the gprs and mms settings. Then I just couldn't connect. Then data support guys sent me new settings. Then I could connect, but I still couldn't open a webpage. If I wait like 15 minutes to open a page, yes, then it works, but I dont have that time. What I cannot understand, is if I check the connection status, when I type in the webpage adress, it start downloading, untill it reaches about 15 -20 kb, then it downloads like 1 kb in 30 seconds. For emails I use outlook express. Previously I used mtn, and vodacom, and it never took so long, luckily I didn't destroy their simcard, because then I would be stranded. Thanks a lot

Sorry for taking so long to respond! I only get on the internet each day late at night.

Ok...Does your GPRS internet work FAST on your Mobile phone?
Does your GPRS internet work FAST on your PC, via datacable via your Mobile phone?

Then, Have you made ANY chargable calls to another telephone number using you VM simcard yet?No?-make a 2 second call NOW!!!

I've noticed that VM is problematic in peak periods like after 8pm weekdays and on weekends. Probably because they dont have their own network and are using cEll C who also are not too good when it comes to network availability.

You're probably in an area where the network is jammed.

Do you have the same problem if you try at 6 or 7 am - try it then and see.
 
I also had that problem using my sony v600 but only via bluetooth... Now i connect via datacable and sony mobile networking wizzard and voila... my internet is waaay fast
 
Are you using Norton anitvirus on ur pc? Is try disable it for a mom then connect and see if you make a connection...

I'm using *bangs PC* norton on my PC(totally against my will).....cant seem to get rid of it,*bangs PC again*
I'm also on VM. No probs with my connection.

Only thing I noticed is that if your cellphone has a weak signal, webpage loading times increases and general download speeds deteriorates. Positioning my cellphone near a window -> Full signal -> great internet speeds -> increased cellphone battery time.
 
Control panel, add remove, remove nortons.. that fixs you getting rid of it.. I know of at least 2 very good free anitviruse programs... so you cud chuck nortons if you so wish.....

Hi ID13, Yes, on my cell the internet works, okay but wap sites are small to download. On my pc (via bluetooth ) it works for email and if I open google, but any website bigger than that, well, then I wait and wait. I've made a call just now, and it's still the same after that. And I've disabled the antivirus also, but still no progress. I talked to a data support guy today for more than an hour, and still they cannot fix my problem. They will come back to me tomorrow. They wanted to chech if it's a network or simcard problem.Thanks

Thanks guys, I'll try a data cable, and who knows, Maybe virgin is'nt the problem. I'll let you know.
 
yip it may be your encrytion levels on the bluetooth...?..remove them and try.. if your phone works then logically the pc has to work or antivirus is blocking and if not that then try different connection, also try a different browser, may have one or two corrupt files in your browser.. try firefox if u using IE or use IE if you using another browser..
 
I am having the same problems. After a couple of redials it usually works. Sometimes (like on Saturday) I could not connect even after redialing repeatedly - it turned out that the whole GPRS network was down.

I think the network is jammed - the connection usually works during mid-day.

hi,just make sure that your phone in not automatically locking onto/roaming the Vodacom network...that seems to be a BIG prob. Roaming GPRS on the VC network is REALY SLOW. Trust me on this one,i tested it...the speed differs like the day and the night.
