Online spy plan raises fears over privacy

If they really want to destroy their industry then they should launch this software - music and film industry easy enough to boycott - which consumers will do - when they start putting their kids in court.

/talking of which - notice - not a single murder, rape or corruption case on NZ paper front page/

Ag, just pirate with the old sneakernet. Couple up your harddrive (or similar mass storage medium) into your buddies machine and download at 70MB a second!
 
don't you get softwares that hides your ip's from these tipes of spy software the internet authority uses?
 
The MPAA and RIAA are going to get what's coming to them soon enough, the more people with "infleunce" gets cought up in their little game the more they'll hit corners. Especially when those people relize that their rights have been taken right from under their feet just so those industries can make a few extra bucks. I can't wait for their eventual fall. As they say everything that goes up must come down.

How often has piracy been overlooked because members of the BSA are implicated?

I can see people claiming that they thought it was a legal trailer and when confronted with the fact that it was over a gig in size, they answer that they thought a gig was a muso session...
 
Whats disgusting is that they are using it to catch people downloading a R70 movie... Forget about child porn, WE WANT YOUR R70!
 
This will not be very effective. They will have to get court permission to bust the private details from ISPs, who will oppose it for their own sake. Then they have to get permission to enter property without owner consent and look up the content on individual PCs. It is doable for a few and might be a good scare tactict, but over the long run ineffectual. If they wanna beat piracy, they will have to bring down content pricing.

Even having your IP address doesnt prove its you doing the downloading - especially if you have a unsecured wifi access point. :)
