Just got letter to trial BoPL :D

Just got a letter from Ethekweni Municipality and they have offered us a 3 month pilot test for their BoPL service. So far I have absolutly no infomation about the service except that it is free for the pilot.

Cracks me up who it is from, Deputy Head : Information Technology and e-Government.

Interesting, so they are also going for BoPL. Its not the same company doing pretoria is it, GOAL?

Looks like this is the actualy municipality though.. wish Cape Twon would do something like this, and send me an email.
 
James does this letter give u any contact numbers for this trial, im in kloof and would love to also give it a try

Ethekweni is to Durban what Joburg Metro is to Johannesburg or what Tshwane is to Pretoria.

So Durban and Pretoria are doing it now... I wonder if and when Joburg will follow suit.

Please keep us updated on this if you don't mind. Karnaugh had a pretty fascinating piece about BPL on his blog the other day, so I'm really interested in seeing if BPL lives up to the hype.

While it is a really good thing, don't get to excited about the "200MBps" that's shared link speed, like a LAN. Everyone on one "local loop" shares that bandwidth. From whatI've read I think they're initally targeting 2Mbps per customer. Goal was talking 6Mbps in Tswane, I presume it's the same bunch.
 
Yeah, I assumed it was a typo which is why I lolled. They compared the "200 megaBYTES" to similar broadband offerings.

It is still gauvamint so I probably will never happen. I still have not had a call back even though I spoke to the chick and she said she was repling to my email as we speak.
