Why do 19 inch LCD screens only go up to 1280 by 1024

I was looking at 19 inch LCD screens and they support the exact same max resolution as 17 inch LCD screens - 1280 by 1024.

I am looking for a good quality make 19 inch LCD that support higher resolutions (hiher than 1280*1024) and I only want to pay around R2000 for this. Does anyone know of places selling those bigger resolutions LCDs at affordable prices?
 
I searched the net for such an animal a while back. No luck though. You'll need to get a 20".

Yep you'll need to get 20 or 21 inch even. No 19" will do above that unfortunately :(
 
It's a standard:
- 17" & 19" = 1280x1024 (5:4) or 1440x900 (WS)
20.1" - 23" = 1600x1200 (4:3) or 1680x1050 (WS)
23"-24" = 1920x1200 (WS only)
30" = who cares you won't get one in SA :p (other than the Apple Cinema Display for the price of a car!)
 
It's got to do with the native resolution of a LCD. The amount of pixels limits the resolution. If you use a lower resolution, the image will be slately blurred, as more than 1 pixel is used, a higher resolution will also cause image problems.

I've got a 2ms samsung, the funny thing is that it basically only has one usable res, 1280x1024 ... the 1024x768 makes the picure quality very crappy. So I'm guessing they are making the loweren almost res specific. The higher resolutions you'll get on the apple monitors but those start at about 6-7k
 
As Nod said it has to do with native res - lower than that and any LCD will not look too good. Apple only has high res due to the larger screens - if you get any other brand in the same size you'll get that res as per the outline I posted above....and the Cinema Display are not the best by any means.
 
Apple Cinema is obsolete as it has no HDMI with HDCP - it won't work with Bluray or HD-DVD. The best bet is the Dell 24inch at R8000 or so.

Just bought one of the new LG LCD screens L1970HR
Response : 2ms
Contrast : 2000:1

The picture is brilliant , movies and games are real good no ghost image.
Also Text are great on this screen !!!

I would say a real good buy ! :D
 
Thanks all, I think I'll wait untill next year when 20" are around R2500 and then spoil myself.
