Interesting, I hope this is the truth and not another load of bull.
 
Buying overpriced bandwidth / access and reselling it is NOT going to bring down any costs, even if you double the existing amount of users. (The 'scale' that Telkom lost ;) )

Our presidential advisor, Esther Dyson, Internet guru and chairperson of EdVenture Holdings, is perhaps not that well informed.
What she is proposing is that I share my massive 3 gig bandwidth allocation that I pay dearly for, with my neighbours? :eek:

moklet : You could resell whatever size bandwidth you want. I could resell part of my 10Gb to 2 other people at R100 per 3GB, bringing my costs down to R300 total for 4GB
 
Utter nonsense. There is already too little bandwidth available for us to take the precious little we have and sell it off.

This is like saying if you can't afford to eat a good meal, just split your basic meal into 5 and and sell off 4/5 to others.

Then your morsel only cost you 1/5 as much.

Brilliant. You will starve to death, of course, but at least you will do it with a few rands in your pocket.

Just mindboggling that this can be seen as a viable solution to our bandwidth problems

You'd be paying more for your own bandwidth and discounting theirs? :eek:

And these people are running the country, bunch of muppets, who obviously have zero brain cells in the IT Dept.

Just a hint, but do you see anyone else in the world doing this on a consumer level. Tackle the root of the problem, Telkom!!!!

bwana : Well, my cost of R300 would include the modem and rental as well as the bandwidth. They wouldn't need anything other than their Airport Express
 
Of course what happens when your friend... sorry customers uses up your entire cap? Does Roy think every ADSL user is a skilled sysadmin with tons of experience running squid proxies and bandwidth monitors?
 
My neighbours piggyback my line using wireless and their own adsl accounts - seems the security on that old wireless access point isnt up to scratch ;).

The actual adsl 'bandwidth' is too costly to share though - I'm not a charity :)
