Hi there,

I am trying to connect to the internet using my D500 as a modem.

I can connect, but i am unable to go to any sites.... :mad:

Currently, Im usinng the at+cgdcont string for initialization.:D

I have been a subscriber to cell c for almost a year now :mad: , and need to use a mtn/vodacom sim card to do this... Anyone here know how to get this to work?

Any help will be appreciated...!!:)

THANKS!

I had the same problem on a clients PC today. He uses the Solomon USB modem. Elsewhere in the forum there has been talk of others with similar problems - I do not think the problem is on your side, but rather with Cell C.

You might have to specify an Access Point on your phone. Virgins APN is vdata, Vodacom's APN is internet and MTN's is myMtn.

I know I have a problem accessing my emails from Virgin. When I put a MTN or Vodacom sim in then I have no problems.

Hi

You need to change your Registry Setting to the Following and it will work.
You need to modify your MTU setting as the Samsung Cell has problems with the standard MTU setting of 1500.
The Registry Entries you need to add is as follows.
You will be changing your MTU to 1460 this will resolve your issue.
Be very carefull when doing this .. You do this at your own risk...

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\N disWan\Parameters]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\N disWan\Parameters\Protocols]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\N disWan\Parameters\Protocols\0] Add these
"ProtocolMTU"=dword:000005b4 (Decimal Value = 1460 ) Add these
"ProtocolType"=dword:00000800 (Decimal Value = 2048 ) Add these
"PPPProtocolType"=dword:00000021 (Decimal Value = 33 ) Add these

Hi steveb123

Another alternative is to go via Cell C's proxy server. This will also resolve the problem you are experiencing:

Proxy address: 196.31.116.250
Port: 8080

Hi C for yourself ,

Thanks for the information, its really appreciated:D

Is it known that this is REAAAAALLLLYY slow? It took me about 20 minutes to open this site last night.....So yes, its working, sortof :-)

Is there anything i need to do to improve the speed on my side?
Or tell me, did me trying lin_ux solution stuff my box up? lol.

I tested this though , by logging on to the vodacom network, and as usual, not a single problem... So i dont think my box is screwy....

Thanks again for the assistance guys, atleast my messenger works :-) but, alas, still no surfing....

Hi Steveb123

It's a packet ordering problem that exists between the Samsung Chip-sets and the Cell C MPLS network. Basically the problem is that neither support packet ordering.

The registry fixes detailed above by lin_ux are how we are addressing this problem for the affected modem devices and the proxy is generally used by the affected handsets. PM me can I can make a plan to get you a script to load the registry settings automatically.

Cheers

Hi C for yourself ,

I tried the solution with the registry entries. Unfortunately, I was then unable to connect to my phone via bluetooth, at all..... I use the software provided by Ivt , Bluesoleil i think its called.

Only when i removed the entries, restarted and reconnected did the proxy start to work...

I was extra carefull when i imported the registry settings provided. Removed all the add these remarks, remove the whitespace in N disWan and imported. Landed up breaking my bluetooth. Even file transfer was broken..

Am i missing something here?
