access my varsity drive from home?

Hey im pretty clueless about how networks work n remote connections and things like that so id like you guys to tell me if its possible for me to access my varsity student drive from home. Its just a 50MB network drive that we get to keep our stuff on..if i forget to take a specific file home then id like to have access to my stud drive at home and jus get the file i want.

Academic staff would have remote access using a VPN but I doubt that students would have the same priviledge.

You need to obtain permission from the Varisity network folks first.

You should check with Varsity staff first...
however...
if you let on which Varsity you are at, you may find someone on this board with a little insight into the network who can give you an unofficial tip or two...
I still say go with option 1 tho.
 
well if you look at my location im sure you could guess which varsity im at..like i said ive never used this vpn stuff and remote connections so if u guys could take it slow plz..:)
 
what varsity you at? At stellies there is a way, haven't tried it outside the firewall though, I've heard VPN works but havent tried it. Also used to ssh to my drive from student house.
Well, I'm not really a network guru.

One of my friends wanted to do it but Tuks said nope. But that was last year so maybe if you ask now or bribe someone it will work....
 
If you can keep a PC logged in the computer labs (doubt it), you can install Hamachi (www.hamachi.cc) for your VPN and then either use windows file sharing over the VPN or be a bit hackerish and use UltraVNC and use its built in file transfer feature.
 
As Nick said - Hamachi is the easiest if you can have it done. Prolly need your own PC at the varsity tho'
