Useful N80 information

This is probably the most talked about phone on the forum with information spread all over the show. Lots of people like the phone, some don't - too big, too small, too light, too heavy etc. etc. I have had mine for over 3 months now and I am really satisfied - 3 months is a long time, and I am suprised that no other phone has really surpassed the N80 by now.

1. Good themes:
100 years of Montblanc, Emeraude, flower blues, rock, iVisbian (or any othe Vista theme).

2. Apps worth installing:
Adobe PDF reader, Y-Browser, HandyClock, Worldmate, Calcium, HandySafe, Office Suite (can edit MSOffice docs), Full Screen Caller, Agile Messenger, mLock, Opera full (although N80 browser is good).

3. Games worth playing (if you have the time):
MauMau, Zingles (Sudoku), Checkers, Chess, Soccer Pinball, TAM1942, Skyforce, Block 3D, Fifa2006 World Cup, Da Vinci Machines, Mastermind, MiniGolf Castles, Tiger Woods 2006, 2006 Real Football, EA Air Hockey, AMF Extreme bowling, Virtua Tennis, Puzzle World and Duke Nukem.

5. Get yourself a Crystal Case. I got mine from the CellC Store in N1 City.

6. Get a 2GB SanDisk UltraII miniSD card - it is fast and I tend to use my N80 more than my iPod Video 60Gb when I go out.

I have to agree about the MiniSD card, i've also got my latest music on my phone! :-)

As for the crystal case, i bought one from Vodashop - it's nice, but it makes it even harder to see the screen in sunlight (as the case reflects) and it makes the phone that little bit too bulky! I know it's great protection for the phone, but I donno!

I've taken my off for now, will see though!

All those apps you recommended will work on the N70 as well, am I correct?

The only point I disagree with is the crystal case. It is a nice looking cover and all but brittle as hell, my fone managed to make its first drop in a month this morning, off the bed and one of the clips on the cover proceeded to break off. Similar thing happened with the crystal case I had for my W800i.
 
I think mybroadband should open a section smartphones. I think there's so much to discuss and very few platforms on the .co.za domain.

What do you say guys.
 
1. Most of the programs work with the N70.
2. Crystal case protects well, but I agree with your findings - not easy to see in sunlight, scratches easily. Also, collects dust under it, which in turn can scratch your lovely N80.

More tips from my side:
1. Turn on power saver mode. Switch off dual network mode - battery life will last around 2 days.
2. Did you notice that the N80 has an ambient light sensor? The backlight on the keypad will switch on automatically when you are in the dark.
3. Other cool themes are circles and coolspring.
4. When adding music to your phone, always remember to go into the music player and update your music library.
5. You do not need to manually input SMS, email and WAP/GPRS settings. The N80 can set this up automatically from your SIM card.
 
Nice post mohammedm,as for the crystal, it breaks easily and chips off pieces at places ,and has a high dust build up.
Please give me a price for the 2GB SanDisk UltraII miniSD card and where I can get one for my N80 in Cape Town.Thanx

My good friend owns 3 CellC stores - Rosebank & Killarney (Jhb) and N1 City (Ctn). As a result, I managed to get the items at cost price:

Crystal Case - R16 - can you believe?
SanDisk Ultra 2.0GB MiniSD card - R780. I am sure that he will be able to order you one with something like a 10-15% markup. Alternately, get it from www.digitalplanet.co.za - they have it for R975, but you can use all sorts of vouchers with them.

I opted for the Ultra Card due to faster transfer times, mainly between PC and SD Card using a card reader. There are other options:
1 GB Ultra - R455
2 GB standard - R760
1 GB standard - R380
 
That's a bit much for a 2gb mini card, I just purchased one 2gb sd card from Makro for R299. I'll just wait till the price drops and make do of my 128mg card.Thanx alot

Careful now - filesize is 45MB. The themes I have listed in the original post are the best, but there are some other nice ones included.

Be warned - Nokia smartphones are notoriously bad at managing themes. You may not be able to uninstall get and may need to reset your phone. Limit the amount of themes you install.

IMO I don't think it is necessary or required.
This is a broadband site not a cell forum, having a dedicated cell sub-forum is already enough.

What is 'N80 PDS' that bdt mentioned above?
 
Can I ask the more experience N80ers out there what the hell the blue flashing light is for?

I though it was bluetooth, so I turned bluetooth off: It still flashes.

It starts flashing about 5 minutes after the phone's light goes off, open or closed.

It annoys me. I hate flashing lights from my phone, makes it seem like a space ship.

The blue flashing light is to indicate that your phone is on,because the screen goes blank and black so you will not know that your phne is on.You can deactivate it in setting_phone_display_sleep mode_off.
