Three groups, the Consumer Federation of America, Consumers Union (responsible for Consumer Reports magazine), and media policy group Free Press, have released a joint report (PDF) called "Broadband Reality Check II." A follow up to a similar report issued last, the year, the picture it paints of the broadband landscape in the United States is not a flattering one.

Shame poor yanks, having uncapped broadband at less than $40 must really suck.
 
yea 40$ is way to cheap for uncapped broadband i like paying above the 200$price tag :rolleyes:
 
US residents lag in speed as well, but pay more for their slower connections. In Japan, symmetrical 100Mbps connections are available for less than $35 per month, while residents of South Korea can get similarly speedy fiber optic connections for around $32. Those speeds are unheard of for consumer broadband in the US, and prices for much slower hookups are significantly higher—Comcast charges $69 for 10Mbps/768Kbps service where I live, by way of example.

10Mbps for $69 is nowhere near the $144 I fork out to Telkom each month for a 384kbps bit-capped service. For a 30GB cap with the 384kbps service it'll work out somewhere in the region of $350/mo, and this is a shaped connection (unheard of in the rest of the world). Something like $430 for unshaped 30GB (in the good ol' SA thanks to Telkom)... now imagine if we could get these folks to write about South Africa's sorry state of telecoms...... hahaha....now that would be something...:D:D
 
But you don't understand, we are part of "the rest of the world" and thus America doesn't realize we exist.
 
Mock it all you like but things will probably improve there because of reports like this. On the other hand how many condemnations have been published here and what's changed. Nada.
 
M8 of mine was in Las Vegas recently. He told me that the hotel he was in had free wifi and a guest account at a local isp. He basically qued his p2p app for a week, chucked his cellphone in the cupboard, and had a whale of atime in the casino's etc but said that the speed was awfull slo but he had at least like 8 movies to watch when he got home after some serious (frequent) disconnects. He returned to London only to find that something serious had happened to his laptop through all the security checks and flight and his hdd was fried. About a month later he got a wopping bill from T-Mobile. To his shock he had not connected to the hotel but to his own 3g account in England via his mobile. He was so p*ssed off with himself hehe.
 
I was paying $55 a month for Comcast in NJ. But than I had to subsribe to cable tv with on demand everything for an extra 30 bucks a month. Punks, I tell you, money grabbing punks!!!!
