6600gt Vs 7600gs (agp)

Hi there

I've currently have a

Gainward GeForce 6600GT Goldensample 128Mb 128Bit DDR3 AGPx8

and want to replace it with a

ASUS GeForce 7600GS 256Mb 128Mb DDR2 AGPx8

I read some reviews...and people reckon that the 7600GS runs circles around the 6600GT...but if i look at the benchmarks there's like a 5-6Fps improvement.... :confused:

What i want to know is ...did anybody here upgrade their 6600GT's to 7600GS's....how big is the improvement really...
Currently i'm playing titan quest and prey and it seems that the 6600GT does not really pack the punch that well

I would rather go for the 7800GS - currently the fastest card for us unfortunate AGP mobo owners.

The 7600GS is a POS, just like my WinFast (should be WinSlow) 6600 TD with 256MB - a 6800GT outperforms the 7600GS.

I got the WinSlow 6600TD as a replacement for my Radeon 9700 Pro from the insurance company, but my Radeon was much better than this piece of junk!

Would've gone for the Ati 850XT, but it doesn't support shader model 3.0 and it's being used in the latest games (Splinter Cell, etc).

I wish Ati would make one last good AGP card! Prefer Ati to nVidia.
 
hmmmm....true

but

6600GT = R1200 +-
7600GS = R1400 +-
7800GS = R2600 +-

so its between the 7600GS and 6600GT....
basically what i wanted to know if anybody can out of personal experience tell me how the improvement was
 
Hi

My opinion is to stick with your 66gt. I did perceive a slight improvement but not what I thought it would be.

Save you R1000 odd bucks and rather get a good price/performance card when you upgrade to pci-e in future.

An option would be to slightly overclock your 66gt for now.

is the performance difference okay if you only paying in a R100 bucks 4 the upgrade from 6600GT to 7600GS

if you put it that way, then definitely go for it. I drink away 100 bucks in an afternoon at my local watering hole.... :)
 
7600GS has slightly better performance than the 6600GT if you want something a bit more potent look at the ATI X800GTO going for around R900 at Cafe Java
