Property developers look to GTS for broadband service

Whilst this new development from GTS is most welcome, the company has as yet to launch their much anticipated ADSL ISP offering which was announced in the middle of this year.

And here lies the crux of the matter. From their FAQ:

Same message for the past month or two, isn't it? A bit worrying when so many self-imposed dates have come and gone like the wind. From the looks of it, they have stripped all launch dates from their website. I guess it got too embarrassing to keep it updated?

True the problem is they dont even call back when you enquire I have no idea when these guys will start but Im starting to guess never
 
its not possible as far as i know to run video over power lines, not sure if a plc solution is the correct option for estates especially when video is projected to be one of the largest drivers for broadband solutions in gated communites

Broadband video will be via a streaming technology will it not?
If that is the case, if you can send data, you can send video.

WARNING: DO NOT plug the powerline into your ariel connection of your TV/VCR/DVD/TIVO/PVR based on the above statement.

I saw two vans and some technicians in my apartment (Sandton)... usually the best guys to talk to.

They said that they are installing in my complex at the moment and will be up and running by next week.

Pricing they spoke of around R57/month. Speeds of 10MBps. I would love to see that!!

I have posted about this at length elsewhere. It all bogs down to the costs. RG58 cable's reach is only 500m and can only be used for Video. If you use video baluns over twisted pair copper you go
1km and save the cost of using Fiber. Aggregate all the video signals at your DVR or Zoneminder box, digitise the signal, then stick this data into the Ethernet upload port of the DSLAM (http://www.versatek.com/products/vx1000md.html charges
$540 for an eight port mini-DSLAM ADSL2+ version. The DSLAM has 24megs
downstream bandwidth per port. This data is transmitted down a single twisted pair to an ADSL modem. To extend the reach of the DSLAM, attach a FIBER/ETHERNET converter to the ADSL modem's ethernet port. Thus you combine FIBER with COPPER and have the DSLAM manage the upstream downstream bandwidth.

The idea is to use extensive cabling and save on the DVR's and www.zoneminder.com PC boxes with their R2500 each capture cards. A Spectra card can manage 8 analogue video streams. You simply can't use www.axis.com stuff because their spectral response is not good enough for nightvision.

Here are the specks for their ADSL2+ Dslam. Based on the bandwidth downstream and 1meg MPE4 per camera a DSLAM should easily handle your video
applications.

25 at 1000 feet
24 at 2000 feet
23 at 3000 feet
22 at 4000 feet
21 at 5000 feet
19 at 6000 feet
16 at 7000 feet

Upstream from the ADSL modem to the DSLAM is 1meg upto 1.6km.

Since video streaming is only in one direction the DSLAM being a Point-to-Multipoint Switch is the ideal device for your video streaming applications.

where exactly do you live, :D Maybe we should all start moving to that complex

Did they actually say they were from GTS (www.goal.co.za) or that this service would be provided by GTS?
Is it BPL or ADSL?
