no sound in 5.1

i have an asus p5b-dulux wifi mobo , but the sound (on board sound max hd) only works in 2.1 and not 5.1. my spekers only play two front speakers and a sub. nothing else works.

You probably need software AC3 decoder i.e. simulate Dobly Digital Amp.

There's a really nice plugin for winamp and foobar called ATSurround, it upmixes stereo to 5.1, like prologic II.

Speakers? & did you set it all up correctly in the sound properties? i.e. Where you have to indicate to change line in to rear speakers & mic to centre/sub?

I helped the guy set it all up, and everything was setup like it should have been, but we couldn't get the computer to output sound to the rear channels.

But the problem was resolved after a driver update
